He has lost one top front tooth, and the other is wobbly.

Nothing at all, handlemecarefully, but OP says that DS has lost one top front tooth and other is wobbly. My children also found it hard to bite into an apple at that stage. Back to my previous response, if you use clingfilm + tinfoil, no need for lemonjuice or anything else. Tip i got from a dinner lady and it works.

surely whole apple = wobbly teeth out sooner?

Could you do stewed apple?

EscapeFrom · 09/09/2007 23:11

It's not, UD, it's lemon juice.

It's oxygen that makes the apple go brown - in a sealed bag with no oxygen in, it won't go brown.

Ah! (realisation dawns)

Thanks for the advice, I should add, that ds has ASD/AS, so extremely fussy with food, and hates change, he will for sure taste anything that has been added to it, it would result in a full on tantrum in the dinner hall, at least 3 pears of wet trousers, and humming and rocking for the rest of the afternoon, I was called into the school a while back as he had 6 accidents after lunch, and the school had ran out of clean clothes, and was terribly upset because I had given him bread rolls and not slices of bread his lunchbox usually always consists of the same things, only varied slightly with what he has in his sandwiches, and he has to check it each morning before we leave for school, he does'nt like surprises.

can he get it sliced at school?

Threadworm · 10/09/2007 12:49

Thought '3 pears of wet trousers' was strategy for storing pear slices without them going brown .
Hope your ds has a good day at school today.

I would second the lock and seal boxes, they're great. Can he not just have a banana though?

What about if you slice the apple, then put an elastic band around to hold it togerther. It might not go brown.
