How do i find out what my number is with a Nokia 8310

This is my old phone (new one was stolen in town a few weeks ago) and a friends has given me a sim card until my new phone arrives.
However, she doesn't know what the number is and short of putting credit on the phone i can't think of another way of getting the number.

i know you used to be able to dial *# something something something and it would display your number but i can't remember what that number is.

But don't you need to put credit on it anyway, SC? Or aren't you planning to use it? [confused!]

oops!

SpringChicken · 05/10/2004 11:09

I was only planning on using it for people to be able to contact me as i don't know when my new phone is coming and didn't want to waste money by putting credit on it.

S'pose that's my only option really!

What network is it? Does the SIM card have that looooong identifying number on it? I wonder if your friend can ring the network (have to be her to go through security questions?) and just find out the number?

Don't have a manual as it is a really old phone. it isn't listed in the telephone numbers in the phone book.
Can't find an own number setting either.

It's on T-mobile but friend can't call up as she can't remember security settings etc.

She could still try ringing - I had to ring them for something and had forgotten my password so they gave me the first letter, which reminded me - they might be able to ask her something that she will be able to tell them to confirm that it's her. (Assuming she registered it in the first place that is.)

Or could she ask round all her friends/family to see if any of them still has her old number written down somewhere?

just use the phone to ring another phone which has caller display - most mobiles do. then you can see the number of the phone you are using to make the call.

This is like "there's a hole in my bucket"!

SC hasn't got any credit, Ange - and will only be using the phone for people to ring her, for a short time, so didn't want to have to spend money putting some on, so she hoped she could find out some other way...

This is the same phone as mine and there isn't a my number facility on it. I had to put mine in the phone memory as I can never remember it.
Why not just stick a fiver on it to get the number and to cover you until your new phone arrives, then just use up whatever credit is left to send texts now and again?

JanH · 05/10/2004 17:31

It'll have to be a tenner though, unless she has a top-up card, won't it?

SpringChicken · 06/10/2004 15:59

Thanks all - problem solved!
Went to put a tenner on it yesterday with scremaming DD in tow (She was hungry) turned out they didn't do £10 top ups so had to put £20 on it!

Just about sums up my day yesterday!

Well I'm sorry you weren't able to find out any other way after all, SC - glad you are back in communication anyway!
