Yesterday I was making online payments to credit cards. I have managed to set up a payment to one card, using the account number from another card

What can I do to sort it out? I have got in touch with the credit card and will call the bank later on. Argh

I am so stupid.

Don't want this to get lost - anyone else done this or know if it is stoppable?

IF YOU DID IT YESTERDAY IT MAY WELL HAVE ALREADY GONE THRO' BUT IF IT HASN'T THEN I'M SURE YOU CAN CANCEL IT ONLINE

oh sorry ddidn't notice caps were on

did you say 'pay immediatley' or give a specific date?

PicadillyCircus · 05/10/2004 09:18

Did it as pay immediately

Money has gone out of my account. Why didn't I do it for today.

And I'm an accountant

is it one of your accounts that you've paid the money to?

if not, I'd call the bank now. Otherwise, I guess you'll have to transfer it back again!

Although the money's gone from your account, it'll take a few days to clear so you've probably got time to sort it out.

SoupDragon · 05/10/2004 09:24

Chances are that the payment will be returned anyway because it doesn't have a valid account number to go in to.

PicadillyCircus · 05/10/2004 09:43

Have spoken to bank and until it gets there it's in limbo. Really hope that there is no one who has the same credit card number as me at the credit card where the payment has gone to....they'd get a very nice surprise.

Need to call the credit card people on about Thursday when the payment should have arrived.

What is my money doing now - just swimming about in the ether I suppose.

Still at myself.

dare we ask how much, pc?

I once paid money into a deposit slot in a ATM only to realise that I hadn't included a slip to say who I was or what my account number was. Had to phone the bank from work to explain and yes the staffroom went quiet apart from the odd snigger.

This month I checked my bank account balance to relaise that over £500 was missing which had sent me overdrawn. Phoned the bank only to be told I had forgotten to cancel my standing order which was rent for my old house. the bank just implied I was stupid, phoned the letting agent who thought i was equally stupid but said they would give me the money back when it reaches there account which can take up to three days, of course then I ahve to weight for the cheque to clear.

The worst thing is that every month I run out of money so have to co cap in hand to my partner this month I swore it would be different, but I am still broke (if only temporarily) and have no shoes to show for it.

I don't think anyone can have the same credit card number as you! When paying by credit card online, you only type in the number, not the issuing company.

PicadillyCircus · 05/10/2004 09:59

Thank you Soupy . Can breathe a little more easily now.

The amount is too embarassing to mention as we have just remortgaged and are paying off credit card debts.....and this one was the largest one.

And I'd written it all down carefully, or so I thought.

Ho Hum said PC

Every issuing company (i.e. visa, mastercard) has a different starting 4 digits anyway (e.g.I think visa all start with 4 and mastercard 5 from memory). After that, every card number is unique.

JJ · 05/10/2004 10:03

PC, if they were different types of cards (eg Visa and Mastercard) the payment will be rejected. And I think that the acct number has a bit that identifies the bank, also, so it should be rejected on that count too. Hope the money finds its way back soon.

PicadillyCircus · 05/10/2004 11:13

The credit cards are a combination of Visa and Mastercard so all in all looks like the money will come back. But how thick of me

PC, don't feel bad. A few months ago I was transferring money from one account to another and got it backward -- transferred money out of the account that needed it and into the one that didn't.

Didn't notice until I checked the account and saw how overdrawn it was. Scared me silly until I realized what had happened. Cost me a fortune in fines, too. Haven't done it since, though!
