Help O Wise Mumsnetters....

I am very lucky and having my conservatory extended - from 15 foot to about 40 foot!

However this adds to the exsisting overheating problem. The Conservatory Co doesn't touch Air Con/Mechnical Ventilation etc and suggests I get an outside co in to advise.

I would prefer Ventilation as I think it could be healthier (I may be making this up) - ie Sick Building thingie....

I am reducing the windows on the East wall and hopefully the moirning sun, but desparatly need a reasonably cool room

But I am hoping for some expert (please) advise from the pool of knowledge here......
TIA

What do you want to know?

We have put air conditioning (a heat pump which both heats and cools) into our loft conversion and are very happy with it.

KatieMac, if you are having overheating problems now, they will certainly be worse when the conservatory is extended. You should explore your options before committing to anything. Ventilation is certainly much much cheaper than ac. However, it may not be sufficient. I have to say that I am surprised that a conservatory company would not have a mechanical engineer that they work in conjunction with to get heating/cooling issues right. You may want to look into uv filtered glazing. I think it's only a little more in cost to get that type of glass. Presumably the new glazing proposed is double glazing, argon filled and low e. If it's not you should see what the extra cost would be for that. It's possible that the original conservatory would not have been and may be part of the cause of the overheating problem.

Thanks Sofia - the glass is the right stuff and the roof is very insulated. It's south facing and I'm having extra walls put in (to reduse solar gain)

I will ask about UV filtered glass

I was hoping to find out more about the difference between Aircon and ventilation Ameriscot2004. Are you happy with your Airccon? What is a heat pump?
