Hi there. Just as the title says actually, my border collie has just turned 1 and has started chewing the wallpaper in the hall, does anyone know how to stop this? Thanks

Thought you meant he chewed adults! Seriously, collies are so nervy and clever that perhaps some extra stilulation in the form of obedience classes might help?

PMSL sixkinds....i thought that too when i read the thread title.

AFAIK dogs will do stuff like this if they are stressed or bored. Are there any factors that may have caused him stress, like a change in his routine? a house move, new baby, anyhitng really.

Does he get enough exercise? being working dogs they need an incredible amount of outdoors time or they go bananas.

We've had a few border collies over the years and they can be hard work.

i hope you can work it through.

Yeah she has actually just started doing it again since the kids went back to school. She did it as a pup so maybe extra stimulation is what is needed.

I hope we can work it out too cause we are all so in love with her but how much punishement can one house stand. She is not left alone when she is left we have 2 collies and they are the best of friends.

Yeah just reread the title and can see why people think she is an adult chewer. Sorry will rephrase next time.

she probably can't figure out why the little members of the pack keep disappearing for hours on end, bless her ...and she is still quite young in collie terms.

Are you out at work now that the kids are at school? Is she alone much? I've heard that anxiety at separation can be improved by general obedience work: it helps them to see owner as dominant which makes them less anxious about owner being out in the wide world without them. And obedience work would also focus and sooth her big intelligence.

No I dont work, I have the odd creche shift but thats it. Mainly I am in and out most of the day. Ok so I must get down to some serious training is what you are telling me then. Oh joy, for saying she is a collie she is actually quite thick (lovable but thick) and teaching her is such a challenege, not like our other one who does it out of love this one will only do it if there is something in it for her. Poor wee sole.
