Who is thinking of doing it and why? I would want a cosmetic surgeon to be there tbh.

krocket · 01/10/2004 10:49

Me! I have two smallish moles on my face and I hate them. It is entirely vanity which is slightly shameful but as i get older i dislike them more and more.
I am going to see a cosmetic surgeon but wondered if anyone knew about scarring (as an independent view IFYKWIM)

My sister had one removed, many years ago when she was in her teens, and it did scar. I've a feeling she minded more about the scar than the mole, but in complete truth I think it's unnoticeable (whereas I did notice the mole).

I am sure that techniques have moved on and if you consult a good surgeon you will be able to hear about different ways.

And: I have quite a big one and I really want it taken off (ds as a baby used to try & pick it off - thought it was a raisin ) so I am watching your thread avidly!

krocket · 01/10/2004 11:00

It's odd isn't it binkie because I feel a bit guilty about wanting it removed in the sense that it's purely for vanity BUT I really hate it and the older i get the darker and more prominent it gets.

(ha, you've probably got a mental image of me now as some kind of warty witchy woman )

krocket - I have had one on my stomach removed and really regret it now. It was really painful and I have a biggish scar. Unless there is a medical reason or they are really huge I would leave them alone!

krocket · 01/10/2004 11:20

oh thanks blossom, did they tell you it would scar before you had it done?

My mum had a fairly large one removed from her face. There was a tiny, barely noticeable scar.

krocket · 01/10/2004 11:23

aha that's what I want to hear! do you know how/where it was done anorak?

OP posts:
blossomhill · 01/10/2004 11:25

They said it would be small but to be fair I did get pregnant with dd quite quickly afterwards so I think that made it stretch more then it would have done!

anorak · 01/10/2004 11:25

No but I am seeing my sister on Saturday and I will ask if she knows anything.

Most likely national health that's all I know.

anorak · 01/10/2004 11:27

Should have said I can't ask mum as she is dead!

anorak · 01/10/2004 11:27

Not killed by the surgery on her mole may I add!

blossomhill · 01/10/2004 11:29
Sad
Babyannabel · 01/10/2004 11:42

I had a few removed earlier this year, only one from my face. There is a tiny scar that you can only see if you really search for it. It was the best thing I did, before I had it done I was so self consious about it and kept my hair over it all the time (it was near my hairline) so I would recommend it. I went privately and it was fab, took about 20 mins!!

krocket · 01/10/2004 11:45

babyannabel would you mind telling me which clinc you went with, I'm north west but if it was a national one?

If it changes your life I would say go for it. I mean look what I am going through in under a month, a dental implant. Loads of people say don't worry the bridge looks fine, why bother. I am bothering because it bothers me and I hate it!

anorak · 01/10/2004 11:45

Don't be sad blossomhill, it was many years ago. She was not a good mother, a drunken nightmare in fact. I am used to our family's way of dealing with it by humour but I can see how horrible I sound. Didn't mean to upset anyone. Sorry for going off the point.

krocket · 01/10/2004 11:46

that's exactly it bh, I've hated them since I was young and although i realise they're not hideous I just want them not there.

no need for apologies anorak.

A friend of mine had this done recently for a mole on her nose. It left a dip in her nose She then had a little operation to put it right, which has left an even bigger dip and scarring She feels so self conscious about it and is now getting some sort of laser treatment done privately...
