Why can i never get the clothes i want from Asda

Went tonight and wanted a pair of bob the builder slippers with the velcro strap as these are the only ones that i can get on Ds's fat feet.
None of any size in the whole shop

Then set my sights on a parker style coat for him, bargain at 8 quid but a whole row of 6-12mths and nothing else

Lastly i looked for boots for Dd1. She wanted the dark pink barbie ones that my friend got for her Dd last week. Again NONE at all anywhere.

Do they have stuff in and then once it's sold not have anymore or am i missing something.

Nutty, I often find this in Tesco too. Overall, it's great but the number of times I've been in for vests and they've had every size but the one I want or just one size and that's it.

My Mum got a really nice v-neck jumper from Tesco for £12 too - the next week I went and they've got none and still haven't any about 4 weeks later. It's soooo annoying.

Plus, they have hardly anything for boys compared to girls but that's the same everywhere

cuppy · 30/09/2004 22:22

Hi Nutty ,may sound obvious but did yo uask if they have any out the back. Quite ofter our store has what I need but just never on the shelves.
I know what you mean though, I was in Next today and every top I loked there was no size 16. Typical.

misdee · 30/09/2004 22:23

i dont shop in asda anymore. we're boycotting it atm.

blossomhill · 30/09/2004 22:23

I wanted that coat for ds (aged 6) nc. I had to keep going in and checking as they have deliveries daily. I am lucky as I have a car and they are both at school all day so it's easier for me to do that. It's still a pain though back and forth. I did get it eventually . I had to get ds 8-9 and like you say all they seem to have was 6-12 months.
You can always get them to check nearby stores as well.

Skate · 30/09/2004 22:23

AND Sainsbury's now do a range of clothes - only been out a couple of weeks but on This Morning they did a feature on the supermarket fashions and there was a really nice top from there and only £15. I've been to about 3 or 4 Sainsbury's and none of them even do adult clothes, only the kids ones again!!!

nutcracker · 30/09/2004 22:24

I did ask about the slippers and was told that if they weren't out then they didn't have any.

As the assistant didn't seem to pleased at having her conversation with collegue interupted i didn't ask about the other stuff.

I wish they did their clothes online.

I could check at the Asda by my dad but his is smaller so probably won't have them anyway.

Don't think the Sainsburys by us does adult clothes either Skate.

Why are you boycotting Misdee ??

Standard answer when they can't be arsed to look, nutty , IME.

misdee · 30/09/2004 22:29

my dh is employed by asda. since he fell ill 2.5years ago, they keep calling him in for mettings to discuss his needs, without even looking at the info we have given them. they wont pay him off and he wont quit. een tho he is on the payroll he doesnt qualify for discounts etc, and tbh the local shop is crap. usless employers.

honeyflower · 01/10/2004 15:21

It's not just misdee's dh... Asda is part of the Walmart group, which has a really atrocious record globally for its exploitative treatment of its employees. There are many many good reasons for all of us to boycott it. And lots of other people think so too - just google 'boycott walmart', you'll be amazed how many different reasons there are to stay away.

Twinkie · 01/10/2004 15:26

Do you know too that Super Drug only give new dads 3 days paternity leave off!!

deegward · 01/10/2004 15:33

misdee, does your dh know that each year he accrues holidays, and is entitled to them even if he is off sick, they can't be carried over to the next holiday year, so you may find that they terminate his employment at the start of a holiday year. If it is a condition of his contract, and it has not been terminated that he receives discounts, then he should not matter if on long term sick

nutcracker · 01/10/2004 15:59

Thanks Yorkiegirl but i got him some from Wilkinsons today for 1.99

Twinkie - The pest control company that dp used to work for gave him 0 days paternity leave when i had Ds and they moaned when he took unpaid time off

Twinkie · 01/10/2004 16:00

OOhhh rideculous isn't it and they wonder why their staff have no motivation!!

Dp gets a week off paid and then another week at 100 quid if he wants to take it or can take it holiday - think I will be sick of him being under my feet by them anyway and send him back!!

Twinkie · 01/10/2004 16:05

Ooohhh an Walmart in the states will not sell emergency contraception!!

And

WalMart employs approximately 720,000 people. Of that number, A MAJORITY of them QUALIFY FOR FOOD STAMPS. Yes folks, you, me, all of us, are providing welfare to a majority of WalMart employees, and in essence to WalMart itself. That means that WalMart is responsible for providing poverty level wages to at least 360,000 workers, and their families...but the number is much larger. And the figure includes not just part-time employees, but all full-time employees, as well.

WalMart also provides NO affordable Health-Care.

For every job that WalMart creates in a community it displaces from 2 to 5 existing jobs, many that formerly provided benefits.

WalMart employs approximately 100,000 workers in other countries to manufacture goods sold in WalMart stores. The majority of those jobs qualify for sweatshop status. Much of it is forced labor, such as in China. Of that 100,000, many are children.

WalMart gets special tax-breaks in most of the cities that they move into, tax-breaks that are not afforded the smaller "Mom & Pop" stores and other business that they eventually run out of business. Many of the former business owners are then forced to go to work for WalMart for poverty level wages, with no benefits.

WalMart likes to advertise its goods as "made in the USA". The truth is, most of their goods are manufactured whole or in-part by sweatshop or forced-labor in other countries.

Any WalMart employee who gets "caught" exploring "in any way" the possibility of bringing a union into WalMart is immediately fired. Only one WalMart store is unionized--that is in Canada where they have much stronger labor laws.

WalMart's labor practices are, of course, against the law, and they have lost numerous unfair labor suits brought against them by former employees--but they persist in their practices.

And now...WalMart is planning to go into the grocery Super-Market business, with the same business ethics and unfair labor practices that they are famous for.

So...how much are you willing to give up for a cheap bag of groceries? Careful before you answer, because it could be a whole lot more than you imagine. But then, if you're read the information contained on this page you already know.

I am furious with ASDA too......they have stopped doing maternity clothes! They only seemed to do this summer and that is it! Mum went in for me to get some winter things as clothes here in Italy are so expensive and they have stopped doing them! Dont know why as they were cheap and great!

Twinkie · 01/10/2004 16:10

Er ASDA did maternity clothes???

whitefeather · 01/10/2004 16:12

you know what drives me mad about asda, you can ger lovely p.js although try and get the bottoms and tops to match in the same size... impossible ! drives me crazy! youve got to be a size 8 on top and 18 on bottom if you want p.js from there x

collision · 01/10/2004 16:17

They were great Twinkie! I bought two pairs of trousers and a cream shirt and tshirts and got the lot for about £25!!

conker · 01/10/2004 16:25

well i dont get myt food from asda as i dont think it is very good quality. But I have bought clothes on occassion.

Have to say though my mum got offered a job there recently and it was 3.20 and hour, below national wage. they get round it saying you are a student or something. My mum turned it down, but others wouldnt.

jodee · 01/10/2004 16:42

Humph - Tescos kids clothes. Have got some good stuff there but recently I was standing in front of the vast kids underwear section looking for pants for ds, thinking they must have had a run on age 4-5 pants...only to be told that 'sorry, we don't stock that size at all' - WHY???
