How I am supposed to make those paper dolls that you cut out and they end up all holding hands?
(what are they called?)

Tried to do it with dd earlier and they all fell apart, must be to do with the folding technique or something?

Yep - I get this evening's award for most useless mother!

You just fold like a fan and cut out the dolls making sure thay are joined at hands and feet (ie., leave the folds intact at hands and feet). Go on, have another go!

MUMINAMILLION · 30/09/2004 22:10

Remember, you have to cut only one half of the doll shape out..

Will just have to practice on the sly!!

I don't suppose you know how to do a french plait as well do you mm?

Would dearly love my dd to have one- but just cannot get the hang of it- no matter how many illustrations I see!

No, but I could make her a lovely paper-doll-cut-out-crown for putting round her head - you wouldnt notice her lack of a french pleat then!

Mine always fall out, doesnt matter how many times I am shown.

I used to be able to do a French plait on myself but I don't know if I could do it on anyone else - I have two ds's so not a problem!

hi!!
to french plait, part the hair from corner of eye to corner of eye. take 3 sections like a normal plait, plait it till you get to parting, leaving ends un plaited. take some moare hair into sections and plait down some more, leaving ends free, keep plait tight enough to stay in but not too tight to hurt. keep taking more hair into the sections, you can part it too make it neat but it isn't really necesary.
Keep going until you get to back of head and plait section down to end, put a ponytail holder/hair band at en to keep plait in.

you make it sound so easy champs!!
will see if dd will let me practice on her this weekend! Thanks!

no probs,

Champs ... eye to eye, so you mean horizontally, from each eye?? I know I'm being thick. Does it hurt more than normal plaits then? Trouble enough with them!

KatieMac · 03/10/2004 04:53

It will stay in better if the hair isn't just washed (ie slightly dirty/greasy - not that I'm implying anything)

champs · 05/10/2004 00:21

yep, horizontaly. when you get well practised, you can take the first section from a bit higher so it starts higher up. also parting the hair down the middle. and doing two french braids looks really cute.
Just for reference, if you plait under the hair becomes cainrow/camero

linniewith2 · 05/10/2004 00:41

you can do a cheat for the plait if you cant grasp french plaits................Take the top secton of hair as if you are doing a half up half down style(from behind the ears) and gather on the crown.........plait this section in a bog standard plait when you reach the nape of the neck join in the remianing hair and continue plaiting till the ends......secure with a band.
Much easier and a similar effect keeps hair in place all day..........hth
