I have BANNED my kids from getting up before 8am. It gives me time to wake, have a shower and strong coffee and adjust my brain to a new day before the chaos commences. If they come down the stairs prior to 8am they get swiftly sent back up to bed again. It's the only way I can cope.

gibberish how do you manage to get up at 8am and to school on time i need at least 45 mins to get ready and sort everything out. pre-child i'd whittled down to about 10 or 15 though

gibberish · 31/08/2007 01:09

Mine don't go to school nappyaddict Did you ever remember what you wanted to talk to me about?

gibberish · 31/08/2007 01:10

Oops that was meant to be a rofl!

serenity · 31/08/2007 01:26

It's the only plus point of living in a far too small flat - the fact that because the living room is next to my bedroon, I don't feel obliged to get up when the Dcs do (we're talking holidays here of course) I got up at 10am this morning (in my defence remember that I don't get in from work until 1am) Any later than that and I do feel guilty They weren't up until 8/8.30ish though, so it wasn't that bad.

I'm so going to suffer when we have to get up for school I HATE mornings.

ghosty · 31/08/2007 02:04

How can you ban children from getting up?
Please tell me.
DS is 8 in November and I have done bloody everything, everything possible ... I am sure of it ... except superglue him to the bed ...
Only THIS year has he started to understand the concept of "I am awake but that doesn't mean EVERYONE has to be awake" and he has become pretty good at keeping DD amused for a while before she starts wanting to come upstairs to our room ... so we do buy ourselves an extra 15 - 30 minutes sometimes.
It helps that DS can now tell the time ... no breakfast before 7am on weekdays and no breakfast before 8am at weekends.

I bet this thread could describe 100% of mumsnet.

Thinking about this, I know some early risers but they're all OAPs or childless. I don't know one single person with children who happily skips out of bed in the mornings. Do these people exist??

Everyone I know (including me) is haggard and vile until the caffeine kicks in.

Cali, you've gone native.

What is "90s low 100s" in real money?

welliemum · 31/08/2007 03:22

"high 90s low 100s" I mean

twentypence · 31/08/2007 07:20

Sorry to disappoint - but I am that morning person. I can't think of the last time ds woke me up in the morning and he's always up by 7.20am at the latest. it seems morally wrong to wake up before ds, but I can't seem to help it.

wastingmylife · 31/08/2007 07:36

I USED to be a morning person - until I had children. Now I'd like to spend most of my life in my bed.

PippiLangstrump · 31/08/2007 07:56

cbeebies while I have breakfast, talk to you lot and collect my thoughts and energies! I am so grumpy first thing in the morning it's unbelievable. Mind you i have improved a lot: DD wakes up at 6 sharp every morning, we play in bed for a while then we come down and 'god bless Nina and the neurons and the night garden'!!

(it's about to finish now so I have to pull myself together.)

fillyjonk · 31/08/2007 08:21

I need to veg on here for a bit, its the only way I can come to

am dreading back to nursery

also cold mornings. they are the worst. when it it dark and cold at the same time.

Novacane · 31/08/2007 09:24

I had DS stood at his gate at 4am this morning singing
'the time is right to say goodnight, its the end of a lovely day' ala cbeebies bedtime song.

unfortunately he did not heed his own advice.

am soo tired...YAWN.

PersonalClown · 31/08/2007 09:33

I'm only up now because I have the decorators round to re-do the outside of the house.
I wasn't a morning person pre-children either!
How the hell am I going to get up at 7:15 am next week to get ds ready for school?

PippiLangstrump · 31/08/2007 10:47

7:15???? sounds like a lie-in to me!!!

mylastrolo · 31/08/2007 10:58

cannot believe back to early starts and school run !!! but we mooch i let girls jump in beside me and they watch tiny pop while i snooze for half an hour.

right off to make more coffee!!!

Shoshable · 31/08/2007 11:05

Have a daughter Like me Mom was NOT good at mornings, when we were all small ( of us) Mom Had to do mornings, she would get up ciggie, shower coffee, 2 more ciggies, cook breakfast, coffee, 2 more ciggies, get us ready for school, 2 more ciggies, coffee, send us to school, the first words we heard were have a good day bye!!!!

I on the other hand am raring to go from about 5.30, so to get me out of having to do any other chores, I did the breakfast thing from about 13, just took mom coffee at regular intervals from about 8.00, and no she wasn't lazy, Mom did everything for us, was a SAHM most of our lives, baked home cooked meals, played with us the l just couldnt do mornings.

Shoshable · 31/08/2007 11:06

That should read 5 of us and SHE couldnt do mornings wish I could type.

twinsetandpearls · 31/08/2007 11:16

I am not a mornng person but I find that I can either get up very early or I ahve to lie in.

Ona work day I have to be up about five and I can do this with little pain but if I try and lie in a little bit later than this about half ten is the earliest I get up.

Last year I needed to be in work at about six on three days and on one day I was collected at about half eight, every week I would struggle to be on time for the half eigh pick up as my body just could not handle getting up about seven.

I do find though that by getting into work at six I get a lot done by eight , much more productive than when I work after school but i think that maybe becuase not many people are around to gossip to. I also find that I work well very late on as well, once I ahve put dd to bed and done the tidying and sat with dp for an hour I tend to start my work about ten and manage to get in a few hours of again very time productive work. Afternoons for me are a waste of time.

Luckily my dd has inherited my laziness and hates getting up.

harleyd · 31/08/2007 11:19

i growl lots, shower and drink several cups of coffee

nappyaddict · 31/08/2007 12:15

no lol gibberish. did i email you? and if so what did it say? i wish ds was old enough to understand "you do not get up til 8am"

UnquietDad · 31/08/2007 12:16
