Tell me about South Manchester/North Cheshire. Where to live?

DH's job is relocating to Manchester. We've just had the house valued and we'll be moving in the next few months.
I've heard south of the city is best for areas and schools (true?) DH has been told that Cheadle is a good area and also wilmslow. Any views, recommendations appreciated. Need 4beds and good primary school for the lads.

Ooo, link to Cheadle house please?

Alderley is indeed frightfully posh. Actually, a lot of new money, I think.

Remember to book your spray on tan now and acquire a taste for gold and leopard skin.

Good luck in Cheshire then and glad you liked it

This thread has made me really nostalgic for home (Cheadle Hulme, Cheadle, Bramhall, Wilmslow)

I think you should post every day after you move in just to tell me what the weather is like and what the killer clues are in the Manchester Evening News, and just how nice are those steak & kidney puddings (I tell you, I never appreciated them when I lived there, now I can't get them for love nor money....)

Tinker, I'm rubbish at links but I'll try to get DH to do it later. You could see the church and we parked in a car park next to thechurch and walked around the corner. Does that make sense? I'll try to find it on rightmove and give you the street.

Squonk, there is a butcher in wilmslow and there were lots of pies outside. Must make pie tasting a priority!

Just looked on rightmove - think I might have found it. [stalker emoticon] to show am not really...

Very nice house if the one I think btw, but yes, tiny gardens and front door straight onto road?

cushioncover · 25/09/2007 16:17

Yes, and a bit over our budget but has been on for a while so we looked at it.
Parking seemed a bit of an issue around there too. Still a beautiful house though.

Surprised so many on here thought Cheadle was downmarket. I liked it, seemed quite chic but then I don't know the area well enough.

Oh, not the one I'm thinking then. I'm fond of Cheadle, have to say

Oh sorry I missed this thread as I could have put my vote forward for Hale/ Altrincham. I live on the very outskirts of Hale (so close that if I lived just five doors down my house would be worth so much more!) and I love it for its location. Edge of countryside but just 25mins from city centre. Lovely little shops, bars and restaurants. Having said that, Wilmslow is lovely too and I would live there as well!! Good choice!
