Is buying a second hand piano a good idea?

I really want a piano but finances don't allow a brand new upright piano. In fact, finances are limited!
I have seen lots of pianos for sale for free or for very little money and I assumed this was because they are up a lot of space in a house and, as people get bored of them, they are sold on cheaply to get them out of the way. But I'm wondering if it would end up being a beautiful piece of furniture rather than a useful instrument. I'm aware that a piano will need to be tuned once it has been moved. How often will a piano need to be tuned?
The piano I'm looking at at the moment is an Eavestaff 1930s Art Deco piano. Has anyone had one of these before?
Would I be better off getting a digital piano?
Any help and advice would be gratefully received.

I would go for a second hand piano,as long as it is in good condition. They can be reconditioned if necessary. An electronic one has to be top of the range before it gets close to the real thing.
You need to have it tuned once a year and it's about £50.
Hope this helps!
