skinny boy - what brand trousers?

I have a very small-hipped 2 year old boy whose best fitting jeans (at the waist) are for a 9-12 month old - admittedly they are from tesco which seem to cut clothes big. We are getting desperate because of course these jeans are way too short, and most bigger jeans just fall off him as he runs. Any suggestions? He has another pair of catimini jeans which fit really well, but they were handmedowns, and when I checked out the brand on the web, I found they're selling for £30+ pounds! Help, please.

I admit to shopping a lot in Tesco & Sainsburys for ds' clothes... but iirc I did find that their extremely cheap (I think £1.75!) jeans came up pretty slim, and also the occasional pair of their trousers come with adjustable waist on the inside (like maternity trousers)

adams come up big ime but sainsbo have some nice adjustable waist trousers.

ds1 is tiny too and i have to pull the adjusting things right to the ends!

Catimini jeans etc do go a lot on ebay though, so if you kept them in good nick they might be quite saleable after. Or try buying them from ebay.

I have a very tall slim 6 nearly 7 year old boy and he has always had this problem. The best ones for him have always been Gap. They do a slim, regular and husky(wider) cut in all their most popular styles of jeans. The waists are adjustable on everything in there even shorts. The toddler range which is 1 to 5 year olds I think is usually very good.

Gap jeans (actually all their clothes in my experience, and boys and girls) last so well. Wash and dry great and don't seem to warp and fade as much as other cheaper brands. I have always prefered my children to have fewer better quality clothes and gap definitely fits that bill for me.

you can also get braces and dungarees which, although not helping as such, wil at least keep thethings on him!

Gap do ones with an unadjustable waist - if you can get them in the sale, they are a really good price.

i have a tall skinny DS and DD and find that some of teh Next adjustabel waist clothes are still too big [sigh]

last year Dd was dressed in pinafores and tops / legging as we couldnt find jeans/trousers/skirts

La Redoute do trousers with a slim fit that fit my DS, who has the same problem. We also have belts. And H&M have those maternity style elastic button things in them... although these are often still to big! Mind you, I don't know many children who fit there trousers and often wonder who they make them for!

MeAndMyBoys · 23/08/2007 22:49

lol I have just had this problem with DS who is 4 and has 18 inch hips! We solved it with La redoute and vertbaudet - slim fit, got a great pair of black faded jeans and a pair of trousers too. They both have adjustable waists but we don't need to use them as they fit really nicely.

Next and M&S (who do adjustable waist trousers and are always long in the leg, so a 12-18 month may well fit perfectly?)

I also had this problem with both DSs, and they ended up spending a lot of time in jogging trousers, or elasticated waist trousers.

Mini Boden do adjustable waist trousers - but with my children they're always adjusted outwards(!), so I'm not sure how slim they go. They are pricey unless you get them in the sale (online for the best bargains), but they are good quality & last well.
