Help. Is it a mouse or something else

Something is lurking in my mums pantry and eating through all her packets of ingredients/ food.

We've had a clear out and can't find any droppings anywhere. Checked high and low.

Yesterday I put down 2 big cheese mouse traps and so far nothing but it did take a fancy to some Doritos and nuts . Maybe I should have put a movie on for it as well Grin.

Pics included of a few packets.

Any ideas what it could be?

Looks exactly like the damage we had to crisp packets on holiday in France one year. Hadn’t seen any droppings but the presumed culprit ran over my foot when I got up early one morning and the kitchen was still quite dark. It was definitely a mouse. Luckily it was the last day so we just (screamed) reported it to the rep and didn’t have to deal with it!

Twotothreeagain thank you for your reply. Good job you were leaving that day. I'm terrified that I'm going to see it.

That definitely looks like a mouse, (or mice), get a humane trap and pop some peanut butter into it. They love the stuff.

Release into the wild and try and find out how they got in, (they can get through holes the diameter of a pencil, so it's tricky).

Screamqueez thank you. I will go to my mums tomorrow armed with peanut butter

Don’t use a humane trap (they’re not) get an old fashioned snap trap with a mix of peanut butter/Nutella on it

Put all packets in tins or plastic tubs.

Is a lot of food disappearing from those packets? When I had holes bitten out of packets like that it was a rat.

sableandI · 07/11/2019 21:33

Blouseandskirt there's hardly anything being eaten. Just loads of damage to packets and it's all the good stuff. Omg rats. That's terrifying.

@MiltonRoad why don't you think they're humane?
I caught a number of mice using them in my old house, all were released into the wild with no obvious ill effects.
You have to check them regularly, but you'd do that with a trap anyway.

multiplemum3 · 08/11/2019 06:15

I've heard they're inhumane because when released they don't know where they are and struggle to find a food source. You also don't know if they have babies that will die without it's mum. But I fucking hate mice and just use old fashioned snap traps.

MiltonRoad · 08/11/2019 07:19

Because they need releasing away from home. Most die anyway from dehydration/not being able to find food/ predators. Better a quick death than a slow prolonged one. Plus it’s unlikely you have just the one mouse. Better to get rid quickly. @screamqueenz

Ah okay thank you, I didn't know that.
