I'm still shaking like a leave since DS2 (nearly 4) tumbled down the entire flight of stairs 1/2hr ago.

He had a good cry at the time, but seems ok now (keeping a close eye on him). But I'm a wreck. DS1 fell down the stairs 2/3 times when he was younger (and smaller) than DS2 is now - and consequently didn't make such a huge "thud" - it was horrible - especially as I was only the other side of the door from where he landed.

We'd been having such a relaxed afternoon too - DS1 and 2 were in their bedroom playing the playstation (DS2 now doesn't want to play so DS1 is "bored" on his own), DS3 had been a little gem and I was feeling quite relaxed too.

The stupid thing is - that the reason he was coming downstairs is because the Banana I'd just taken up to him was all black when he unpeeled it.......if I hadn't taken up the Banana, he wouldn't have been coming downstairs, and he wouldn't have fallen .

poor all of you

It is so horrible when that happens.

fryalot · 16/08/2007 15:06

oh god, it's awful when something like this happens...

what you have to focus on is:

a) he is ok.

b) there is no point in dwelling on 'what if's

c) he is ok.

take some deep breaths, make yourself a cup of tea, then try (difficult I know) to forget about it.

he is ok.

Tigana · 16/08/2007 15:07

You cannot blame yourself for providng a banana QoQ!

scorpio1 · 16/08/2007 15:07

i hate that thud noise

i think you are allowed a drink.its not your fault, btw.

RGPargy · 16/08/2007 15:07

awwww poor you!! I think it shocks US more than it does them. The noises they make when they fall or seeing them falling in front of you down the stairs (happened to my DS) is awful. But dont worry, i'm sure he's fine now. And deffo dont blame yourself. It was an accident so couldn't be helped!

numptysmummy · 16/08/2007 15:07

If you hadn't of taken the banana up he would of come down for something sooner or later and then you would be blaming yourself for NOT taking 1 up! Give him a big cuddle,be glad he's o.k and stop blaming yourself. Have a stiff drink - it's after 12!

Tigana · 16/08/2007 15:08

If you hadn't taken up the banana he would have come downstairs to ask for one...

Cup of tea and cuddles

JeremyVile · 16/08/2007 15:08

Oh, poor you and poor DS!
Dont blame yourself - it happens.
Just give him a big hug, keep an eye on him (as you are) and if you are ruling out a wee dram then have a cuppa and and relax.

Tigana · 16/08/2007 15:10

snap numpty!

MyTwopenceworth · 16/08/2007 15:11

It was an accident, Q, you didn't kick him down the stairs, don't be so hard on yourself.

It's happened to us all, you know. down the stairs or tripping over something we left out, or banging their head ....

Use this to reinforce to him the need to always walk carefully down the stairs, holding the bannister.

And give him another banana!

TheQueenOfQuotes · 16/08/2007 15:11

thanks everyone........I'm not ruling out a Vodka.....just wanted to know if it was too early wry .

Of course had to call DH at work to tell him - and of course he's doing his first lot of training this week so I've been deliberately not phoning or texting him - now he's going to be thinking about poor DS2 for the rest of the evening and worrying too [frown]

I would give him another banana - but they were the last two

Perhaps a biscuit?

I think maybe you can have one too

brandnewhelsy · 16/08/2007 15:23

If it's any help, I took dd2 (3) to GP this morning because she bounced into an iron bedframe and banged her head last week, and since then she's knocked or been knocked in the same place a further three times . So, seeing the headlines "Mother waited until child hit head FOUR TIMES before seeking help" and ignoring the fact that she'd not been sick/been unconscious/cried for more than a couple of minutes or seemed disorientated on any of these ocasions, I took her to the GP who looked into her eyes, asked the above questions and said she'd be fine.
17:05 for a drink. No earlier. It's just not five O'Clock then

TheQueenOfQuotes · 16/08/2007 15:25

thanks brandy - he seems fine now he's got over the shock - and is now playing PS2 with his older brother again, lots of squeals and laughter coming from the direction of their bedroom so I'm a little more relaxed now....
