all i have so far is blue mosiac tiles, and a silver glitter toilet seat. the bath room is a fair size, and as my dd's spend at least 30mins in there each night i want it to be a nice room to be in.

The floor is hideous (plastic wet room floor which looks grubby no matter how hard you scrub it). the bath panel is cracked, so am wanting to replace it, but as its a corner bath i have no idea what nmy options are. no idea what colour to paint the bit of wall which will be hsowing once the tiling is done. help me!! i have half a design plan in my head.

could you fit a standard bathtub as a replacement?

Branster · 23/09/2004 23:20

as regards flooring, I'd always recommend tiles 9they come in all shapes and sizes and textures especially durable for floors) or i should think amtico do a bathroom floor and you could choose any design you want with them.

Hmmm been here last year... We put in a plain white suite and did white tiles with a thin strip going round the bathroom of the little blue mosaic tiles (actually all sorts of shades of blues/greens/yellows). This way we kept the price right down and made the room as light as we could and spent the money we saved on some trendy taps! We painted the walls lime green and have a blue and white shower curtain and a roller blind to match. Blue carpet completes the room. It is mainly the kids bathroom and if I say so myself it's a really fun room for them to use.
If you want to replace the bath panel you can buy them individually from bathroom shops or a lot of people do the tongue and groove DIY thing that looks great.

can recommend Amtico or their poor relative Karndean for flooring - looks like tiles but not cold or they do wooden plank variety. Do Homebase do a corner bath panel? I would ditch the silver seat (sorry) I think i'd paint the wall white and then hang a nice piccie there or similar. Adorn the place with a couple of plants and other trendy knick knacks.

Isn't the flooring slippery when wet...so to speak .
I know it's not as easy to keep clean, or as trendy but at least carpet is a bit safer for the little ones when they get out of the bath. I slipped on our tiled bathroom floor as a child and put my leg through the side of the bath!!lol!!

jampot - well said about the seat...so sorry misdee.

Misdee I would go for a marmoleum floor covering - nice warm feel and not slippy at all. Would also highly recommend one of those high radiators/ towel holders - mine has been brilliant. Either white or chrome depending on what you do with the toilet seat.
Nice big mirror or mirror tile above the sink - and I love my ropa rhodes sink - huge area either side for soaps etc - but a bit high if the kids are very young.

well we only replaced the loo seat last week as the cheap one the council fitted just fell off all the time. its more dh choice than mine, plus the kids love it. so its staying no matter how tacky it is. (and we all need a bit of tackiness lol )

The bathroom itself isnt wide enough for a standard bath as originally it was a wet room (disabled bungalow).

I dont think carpet is a good idea as dd2 likes to flood the room (dont ask), plus with all the creams and emoillants they use (which has been known to stain carpets) its just not practical. i do have a bath mat with rubber backing tho which i can chuck in the machine.

depending on how much money you've got to spend. Ilove the pebble effect tiles on floors - look really good.

misdee · 24/09/2004 10:16

i love those two. but with the mosiacs i think it might be too much. but they do look fab (and are just out of my price range i think)

You can make a curved bath panel from flexi ply and then tile it.Darkish wood with white looks nice with a few plants and open shelves for bottles etc.Put all nice ones out and stick others in a cupboard I would avoid themes as they are tacky and date quick but its a really personal thing

SoupDragon · 24/09/2004 12:09

Paint wise, I'd probably stick to white and add the colour with the blue mosaic tiles and acccessories - if it's not right, white paint is cheap and easy to cover over with a different colour later. Floor, go for non slip floor tiles - we've got these in our family bathroom and they're great. Put a bathmat on top for warmth underfoot and it's very practical.

I love the glittery toilet seat BTW. The ones with fish, drawing pins or barbed wire in are yucky though

misdee · 24/09/2004 12:43

thank you soupdragon. have u seen the toiet seat with the razor blades? now that one should never have been made. just conjures up images of cocaine users to me.

Haven't read everything, so sorry if it's already been said, but if you can afford it, the mosaics are great on the floor! They are really nice and non-slip. I've done them in several of my bathrooms now that are heavily used by toddlers and children. (i'm an architect) If you do decide to do them, make sure you contact me for info on how to do it so they don't crack.
