Did you get a fair price? I'm thinking of starting selling some books there but the marketplace value for some of the books I have is very low indeed. Is it worth it?

If the marketplace value is very low, then it probably isn't worth it. If there are several copies on already of the books you want to sell, then you probably won't sell them. (But if they are light books, then you can actually make a small profit on the share of the postage you get from Amazon even if you sell them for 1p.)

Dh sells a lot of books on Amazon, but they are rare books, often out of print, in a specialist market, of which he has specialist knowledge. Some books are on there for many months before they sell, but he sends them all over the world; I don't know how many he has listed currently, but he usually sells between 2 and 12 each week.

So it can work, for certain types of book.

Hi Branster, I sell our old books on Amazon. Have just sold a new hardback for just under what I paid for it (new Sophie Kinsella). I bought it at Costco for £7.99 and sold it for £7. Like Roisin says it does take a while to sell some books but they are easy to list so why not give it a try.

I've sold hardbacks (craft/x-stitch books) for a decent price. It's free to list so you've nothing to lose, really.

I've just had my first go at selling books on Amazon and have been impressed at how easy it is. You can see before you list them exactly how much you will get and how much commission you will pay on them. It may not seem much but you have to take into account the postage which the buyer pays. Amazon sets the price for postage and adds it to your account but I have found that even first class the actual cost comes to a lot less than they say so it all adds to your profit. The only drawback I have found is that I was supposed to be having a clear out but now i have got to hang on to all these books I have listed in case they sell!
Also, you don't get to watch what is happening like you do on ebay, you just list them and hope for the best. One BIG advantage is that if they don't sell it doesn't cost you anything. Another is that you don't have to take photos.

Yup, just sent two off today. I am having a lot of luck with my ex-Uni books, which are selling well now because it is the beginning of the year. Ones that are really popular and cheap I don't bother listing, I just give them to the local library. It is a bit of a faff, printing off packing slip, posting within a couple of days, but the way that I look at it is that it is freeing up space in my house and I am getting a few quid and it is environmentally friendly to recycle books (rather than move them when you move house, store them for 10 years and then dump them - which I have done before!) Best of luck
