how do you remove banana stains?

Hi

I'm a second time mum and should have cracked this by now, BUT, how do you get banana stains out of clothes? Have tried soaking in biotex but it does not seem to work. Lots of baby clothes are getting ruined due to brown stains.

DS2 wears a bib for feeding but stuff can slip past especially when he tries to eat the bib. Also well-meaning relatives are a bit more careless when feeding! HELP

I never solved this one - the stuff has industrial strength sticking power!
I tried - stain slayer (removes anything! including grease), white magic, and various other things.......

Nobody believed me when I was telling them that babanas mark fabrics really badly! At least now I know I'm not the only one...
Have you tried soaking the fabric in water, put some fairy liquid on it and rub it in and then rub some oxyclean granules on top of that until the stain dissapears? Then into the washing machine and see what happens. Not a guaranteed result I'm afraid but worth a try.

Don't know about banana but I removed an awful stain made by some french choc ice-cream from a pair of dd's summer trousers by buying some Vanish Oxy Action (as advertised by Big Cook Ben )and mixing it (according to intructions) to a cream and leaving it on for 10 mins. Removed it instantly where 3 or so washes in Bio powder had failed. Swear by it now.

Soak in napisan then hot wash.

nor did Twiglett, about the stains

realised it dried on and looked faintly sordid but not stained

Well the things you learn on MN

it seems to only do it on cetain (light colured) things - its like it gets into the weave or something!

There was a thread on this a while ago with someone soundign very knowledgeable...will see if I can find it.

FWIW I have never found a solution, even after No3, still have babygrows with dubious looking (but actually banana) stains.

Never mind Meysey, the phases passes. DS2 17 mo now and stain free.

clary · 24/09/2004 00:58

Yes, here's the thread, tho it seems you have to grab the stain at once... also I can't find this Biotex spray, where do you buy it?
biotex boffin

I never suffer banana stains. But I do put DD through having her clothes pulled off her as soon as she gets banana on them. I feed her in the kitchen and always seem to have a bowl of hot soapy water ready. I dunk the offending item in the water straight away and scrunch it around a little. Gets it out before it has time to dry.
