Another "I'm so proud of my bro" thread. Paedophiles beware.

Had a lovely day with my brother and SIL and we got a chance to talk (away from the children) about his job.

He works as a detective in the 'pro-active paedophile detection unit'for The Met police.

Be assured, people, that the police are onto these b**ds.

It was fascinating to talk to him. He says that, since Operation Ore, detection technology has been transformed. I obviously can't go into details but it was reassuring to know that so much is being done to protect children from further abuse.

Doodle. I would be very wary of a man who gave up literally every hour of his waking hour to work with the Scouts. Even if he had gained a lot from the organisation during his youth.

I know where you're coming from, Doodle.

I do.

Last summer I took the boys to a play park. A man in his 70's arrived, sat on a bench, and was watching the children play.

A lot of parents clocked him and he did stand out. Cue a mass movement of children either away from the park or coaxed to the other end.

I got a coffee and sat next to him. We got talking and it turned out that his son had got divorced, his DIL had moved away and he saw his grandchildren rarely.

Now. This could have been an elaborate story from a paedophile who wanted to watch children. But I believed, from talking to him, that it was as he said.

And it is sad that something as innocent as watching children can be viewed as something so awful.

I think though, for the sake of children, the police do sadly have to think the worst until proven otherwise.

give him a pat on the back from me

it is reassuring to know that the police have good technology. I sometimes come across things in my job (high tech), and think "I wonder if the police are exploiting this"

cad. He's talking about those who volunteer at the expense of a 'normal' life. So yes, those with a normal adult set-up wouldn't fall into this category.

cod. Or maybe 'cad' was OK?

those who volunteer at expense of normal life can't have one. generally speaking they were abused as children and are stuck there.

bully for your brother. this thread doesn't make me feel bullish or victorious though.

paedophilia is awful. it is a cycle. of course it needs breaking but a bit less demonisation would be a start. these are human beings you're talking about. they are dangerous to children and we should protect children from them. but demonising the 'bastards' doesn't nothing for anyone imo.

Bubble99 · 12/08/2007 23:30

OK. Let me demonise their bastard behaviour, then.

what's the point?

pile fear and loathing on fear and warped and twisted and what do you get?

Skribble · 12/08/2007 23:32

Dajavu or however you spell it.

Bubble99 · 12/08/2007 23:35

What do you suggest, soph?

A man arrested for having child torture on his computer and who was prevented from applying for work at a children's summer camp?

How can you not feel pleased at that outcome?

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 13/08/2007 10:29

nope sorry. doesn't make me feel 'pleased'.

relieved that he is being brought to justice maybe. not pleased. there is nothing pleasing to me about all of this, I take no satisfaction from it. at all.

madmumof5 · 13/08/2007 10:33

i have no faith in the law as my daughter was abused by a paedophile in 2004 and he was allowed to walk free were is the fairness in that
