I would be very cautious, tbh. Has he checked it out with the franchise association thing, whatever it's called? Can he get some advice from someone in the business already?

Avalon · 22/09/2004 23:42

I would also be cautious. Is there any way he can check out any of the current franchises - whether they have any/much work and whether or not they make a profit?

If he has some money at the moment, maybe it would be a good time for him to retrain.

I would be extremely cautious - check out not only how many franchisees this business has but how many have failed in total and how many are re-sales. My sister and her dh have a franchise and they can't fart without asking permission and giving a cut of it to the franchise holder!! I'd stay well away

There's an association of some kind which regulates franchises. Not sure if it would have any relevant info, but it might be worth googling.

I think its the BFA (british franchising association) - it has various members and I think has membership based on various criteria - is worth a check (or cheque)

It depends on the product and the price really.

He is 5 years too late to make lots of easy money in web design, yes. 5 years ago web firms were able to wow non-technical companies with simple websites and charge silly money for their services. There's not so much of that now, but there are still plenty of companies looking for a new website, or for a re-build of an existing one.

If the site-building system is any good, and if the price is good, it may be worth a go. Have you got any sample URLs and an idea of cost?

Anyway, saying that, I'd be very careful of "patent pending" technology. There are plenty of tried and tested systems which do the same thing.
