Asking landlord for a dog...

Hello,

Would you mind checking this email I've written for our landlord.
They have verbally told us they have a strict no pet policy so I'm assuming the answer will be no but I couldn't forgive myself if I didn't even bother asking, as we're all desperate for a dog plus the tenancy agreement says no pets "without written permission", so may as well try.
The last tenant snuck a dog in and when we moved in there were fleas in the house ...another reason I think it'd be a no.

It’s gettig tricky. I used to allow pets in some properties but took extra deposit. That’s no longer allowed so the landlord might be reluctant to let you have a pet.

Mine allowed me

It's private rented through an agency and they had a standard no pets policy. My fil became ill and asked if we'd be able to look after his dog for a little while, we'd lived in the house for about six years by then and landlord said it was fine on co diction dog doesn't disturb neighbours regularly and he's cleaned up after. The dog stayed with us for two month and went back to fil.

Two years ago we asked if we could get a puppy, we'd been in the house over ten years by then and again landlord was fine as long as no disturbance to neighbours and on condition any damage the puppy did was paid for by ourselves. He'd said his own puppy was "a bastard for chewing doors and carpet" so any of that type of damage we had to pay to have repaired.

No harm in asking just don't get hopes up.

Good luck, but you may find that the landlord sticks to the "no pet" rule. i rented my house out for a while, and the tenants asked to have a dog -one dog - which I agreed to and they paid an extra deposit to cover any damage. I later found they'd actually had three dogs, one of which was a puppy. When they moved out, every carpet was ruined (although they said they'd been cleaned, the state of the underlay was revolting) and I had to recarpet the entire house. The deposit didn't make even a dent in that bill. And now you can't ask for an extra deposit, there is no way I'd agree to let pets in a house I rented out.
