I have tried everything, but theres no way ds1 (20 mnths) will sit still for a photo in a booth, went to mothercare to c if they had someone to do it but no! help!! No holiday for me this year if we don't get it done quickly!

A number of chemists (eg Lloyds) etc have polaroid cameras to take ID photos. I do find that my DSs will sit still for someone else better than they sit still for me ...

You can take the photos yourself.

I took my ds (aged about 9 months) to a chemist that also processed photos and I simply sat on a chair against a white background and held ds at an angle so I didn't come into the picture - i.e. no booth situation. Anything like this near where you live?

spikeycat · 21/09/2004 09:25

Not that I know off, I will check out the local chemist! I spent 3 quid pissing around in a photo booth, ds thought it was great fun!

we took dd to snappy snaps and they did it - very quick digital photos and very reasonable.

anorak · 21/09/2004 10:39

when mine were tiny I had them sat on my lap in the photo booth. The passport office accepted the photos okay.

I had this situation a few months back and just went to a professional photographer, it wasn't that much more and the photos were excellent.

linnet · 21/09/2004 10:57

we took both dd's to Jessops to get passport photo's done.

Took dd to a Mailboxes ETC outlet. Laid her on the floor on a white blanket (instead of a backdrop). The photographer stood over her and took a photo of her lying on the blanket. Worked fine. We came up with this method after messing about with trying to get her to sit up/still on a backless chair for far too long. Good luck.

We took ds (at 23 months) to a portrait place. We propped him up on a stool in front of a white background with dh holding his hand at a bizarre, not-in-the-shot angle and me jumping up and down like a complete idiot behind the camera

He looks really miserable and at a bit of an angle but I am hoping that the passport people will accept it. Now I just have to find the time to fill in the form!

I had ds passport photo done in Klicks. THey have a plain pull down background, sat ds on a high stall with me stood next to him holding him on the stall, hay presto 4 passport photos before I knew it!!!!

SoftFroggie · 21/09/2004 13:30

At a professional photographers - the sort that have lots of wedding photos in the window, and a small sign saying "passport photos available". Cost about £5, so not much mjore than we wasted in the photo booth in Woolies. He sat him on a chair, waved a teddy in the air, and hey presto, 4 identical decent photos.

Before trying that I had taken the manic booth photos into the post office in the (vain) hope they'd accept them. The chap looked at the photoes, which were a bit llike a crazy dance sequence, looked at me, and said "umm ... I do need two the same".

You can also do your own photos now with a digital camera, providing it complies with the measurements and pixels etc. The exact deatils are on the passport form. Might not be as useful for escaping toddlers but quite useful for babies.
