That's it basically. I'm 30 but apparantly look 22-25, and sound like I'm about 15! I don't get any respect at work or in my general life and my confidence is quite low (I suspect this is part of the problem) I want to take my career in a different direction and I know that I will not be taken seriously. I've always hated my voice and now NEED to do something about it. I've looked for a voice coach and can't find any locally (also quite skint) and I've been on Amazon to see what they have, but tbh, I think I could do with seeing a real person rather than reading a book, anyone got any experiences to share?? Advice to give???

Thankyou!

(I'm an insensitive cow - I'm dying to say "Divorce Victoria, get your balls back, golden or otherwise" Sorry, it just immediately bounced into my mind as I was reading your post)

If this is affecting your confidence and general well-being, I know it's a long shot, but have you tried your GP? I've heard of people getting NHS boob-jobs for confidence reasons - surely this would also qualify?

Something like this can really undermine you if it is your 'issue' with yourself, regardless of what people say. Perhaps your GP could refer you to speech therapy? Lots of luck to you.

how about amateur dramatics. that would bring confidence in itself.

I am having speech therapy because I have a nasal intonation and my dd's speech therapist said that my kids were picking it up, like an accent

I think it is worth talking to your gp and seeing if you can get some help

certainly I'm not an urgent case and I've been given some

This here might be what you are looking for--she was interviewed on the radio and talked about exactly this problem. See here

There are vocal exercises you can do to help.

thank you all for your advice, I thought this was going to be an unanswered thread! I never thought of seeing my GP about this and Jaynehater (wonder what she did - perhaps best not to ask....) it does undermine me, I'm made of stronger stuff and I'm more intelligent than I sound, thank you for your help , not insensitive at all.
