If you went to town and wanted to either change your baby, or feed them in private.........

which shop would you go to in the hopes of finding facilities available to you??

CSWS - I wouldn't bother about doing it in private (well did in the first few weeks as had to get the entire nork out in order to latch him on) I frequently just perch on one of the (backless!) benches in the shopping centre to give him a quick feed. However many women DO want to feed in private, whether it's breast or bottle.

Actually I've just checked the council website apparently they have TWO baby changing facilities......although I dread to think what the 2nd one is like I don't even go in there to use the toilet when I'm on my own, let alone with chidren !

lol - I hate all public toilets!

What about coffee shops or restaurants? Any of those any good?

TheQueenOfQuotes · 31/07/2007 22:57

restaurants - what restaurants???? .

Coffee shops........well I haven't dared venture into Costa Coffee since it opened a few months ago....other than that don't think we have anything to talk off.

gawd I really do live in a sh*t hole don't I - yet I actually like living here

I think I'd catch the bus to another town then!

MrsScavo · 31/07/2007 22:59

We have a brilliant cafe, which is very pro breast feeding, with a changing table in the loos. if your'e in your home town, it's so much easier to know which small cafes are good.

My feeing/changing days are over! We're now into dash to the nearest loo.

JackieNo · 31/07/2007 23:01

Might be worth checking out Costa Coffee - I know our (very small) one locally has OK changing facilities.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 31/07/2007 23:03

really?? I'm a bit "scared" to go in there as it's always full of really chavvy chavs and half the teenage mum population (you know the ones that use their children as accessories as opposed to the lovely ones who are amazing mothers)......

costa usually have changing facilities

That's a shame, QoQ. Ours is pretty nice - and a big toilet with changing thing, fold-down one, I think. But I'd probably only feel OK to use it if I was actually having a drink/food there.

Aero · 31/07/2007 23:08

We have a similar problem here QoQ. Boots did have one, but they closed it because of certain people abusing it. Thankfully, for me, those days are over, but I'd hate to think what I'd do now. Cadbury informs me though that Boots will let you use their room, but you have to ask for it to be opened now. Toilets here are despicable. I used to head to out of town centres when ds2 was feeding, but if you don't drive, that's not an option I guess.

nappyaddict · 01/08/2007 00:16

have you a BHS or woolworths?

bookthief · 01/08/2007 00:35

The last time I went into a branch of Boots to change ds they did have a changing room (disbled toilet with pull down changing ledge thing) but you had to queue at the photo counter to get the key and it was filthy. So much for them locking it .

TheQueenOfQuotes · 01/08/2007 12:18

nappyaddict - we have a woolworths.

In our small town I'd probably go into Morrisons to change the baby. If I'd wanted to feed, it would either be Morrisons, or a coffee shop, or a bench, or the car. Or, the library, which was a lovely place to feed in. When the librarian came to a M&T group, she said they loved it when babies were being fed (bottle or breast) in there. And an unlimited supply of reading matter .

Quite glad I don't have to think about changing babies' nappies anymore, although now have the dash to the nearest toilet with DD going "wee Wee WEE" at every increasing volumes . Have found the library very helpful there too. And thinking about it, the "emergency" toilet in there mentions not putting nappies in the toilet, so you could change a nappy there too.

Lostmykeys · 01/08/2007 12:31

Idris, your talk of feeding in the car makes me laugh. Had same problem as QoQ in a local town one day and thought mest place would be to BF in the car. Next thing I knew a senior lady misjudged her parking and hit my car! Can luagh about it now but wasn't funny at the time as I had to get out with DD still clamped on, was on my own!!!
QoQ if your baby is small enough, change them in their puschair, seems to be the cleanest place for me. My local town is crap with regard to any baby facilities. People welcome you with a baby, but forget they need changing.

islandofsodor · 02/08/2007 00:14

Our local Boots don't have a baby change. The only place that does is Asda and if I needed to change a nappy I would go back there. For feeding it would be sit on the bench in the indoor market or go to a cafe.

When ds was a baby and dd was potty training I was in the market cafe when she suddenly needed a wee. The cafe owners babysat ds for me, whilst they took me to the private market traders toilets so I didn't have to go to the public ones outside. That was in addition to finding me a better chair to b/f ds in. They were great.

nappyaddict · 02/08/2007 11:47

our woolworths has got changing facilities. maybe check in there?

preggersagain · 02/08/2007 11:51

local baby shop- lovely toilet and changing facilities and a v. comfy rocking feeding chair with footstool AND you are welcome to make a cup of tea/coffe/ squash for the kids- thats what i call service!

NannyL · 02/08/2007 21:38

almost all mother care branches have a baby room (those that dont will lend you a mat if you ask)

Many branches of M&S / John Lewis / Boots also have baby changing / feeding rooms.... and some big shopping cnetres have baby rooms in the shopping centre toilets as well
