Have just received this message from a friend on facebook (the text speak is obviously not my own - or my friends!):

"if someone called [email protected] adds u don't accept it because its a hacker.

Tell everyone on your list because if somebody on your list adds them u get them on your list he'll figure out Your ID computer address, so copy and paste this message to everyone even if u don't care for them and fast cause if he hacks their email he hacks your mail too!!!"

Plus dont accept any ecards on here - someone I know says they opened one at work and luckily the work virus software stopped it, but not sure about people at home..."

It might be a scaremongering thing but seeing as plenty of you lot are on Facebook I thought I'd let you know - it is up to you what you do with the information...

Oh what a load of bollocks! Sorry but there is no way someone can work out YOUR IP address from your Facebook account. Your computer if unprotected can be hacked but it's got nothing to do with Facebook and actually if you try to find this person on Facebook, you'll find s/he doesn't exist.

Yet another pesky bit of Internet spam which can be safely ignored.

the e cards emails are true and correct i've had several to my yahoo account also ones saying re xyz as well with one attachemnt.

our computer has the anti virus stuff on and blocks them all from being opened but they're def true.

the links are all numbers.

OK, that's me told [big huffy emoticon]

TBH, I usually take these things with a pinch of salt but then I am the biggest technophobe out there... I have no idea with these types of things and what's not! [gullible emoticon]

Last sentence didn't make sense, can't be bothered to re-phrase but I'm sure you get what I mean!

Yes there is a lot of spam viruses coming through ecards but it's got nothing to do with facebook.

However, if you follow the general principle, if you don't know the sender or it is not expected (and has an attachment) don't open it, you can't go far wrong.

LadyMacbeth · 27/07/2007 19:49

Oh, OK Pip, just read yours, well I'll leave it in the lap of the gods and not reply to anyone called bum noo or whatever...

LM - please don't by huffy, I wasn't saying you were stupid, I was just pointing out that like most of these scare stories, you don't have to take them seriously.

LadyMacbeth · 27/07/2007 19:51

Oh, don't worry, no offence taken - it takes A LOT more than that to upset me properly!

yes the face book account I ahve is on a differnt email to the ecard one/yahoo one i have -= I have no idea where or how they got that one but the line says

'you have a new e card' or a collegue send you a new e card.'

I can open the message and it says click on this link but then our computer won't let me do any more - DH keeps telling me not to even open the messages.

re face book - I don't really use it. bit weary of too much actual personal info if that makes sence?
