French Drains down the side of house - how long do i have to air the bricks for?

I have a french drain (i believe its called that) down the side of my house to help the drainage.

It was highlighted on the survey when i brough the house that i would have to dig down all along the side of the house and re fill with just stones to replace the mud and few stones that were there.

I just wondered how long it would take to dry out the stones before i put the new pebbles down.

Any ideas?

Dh said as long as you get all of the mud out, it wont make any difference. You can just replace the stones. HTH

Its a bit uneven does it have to be 6 inches all the way or can iget away with 4 because of cement or 5 in places.

And its really hard work on my own too.

clear it out as best you can and then refill with gravel.

The idea is to let the foundations breathe and stop them getting damp - so it makes sense to do as good a job as you can.

Am iright to assume it doesnt really matter what size the stones are?

DH thinks probably not pea gravel - something a bit bigger - say maybe an inch across.

Sorry Jelley, have just asked my Dh, he said that pea shingle would be fab as it compacts better.

Obviously he is assuming you have totally cleared the drain.

I do hope this helps.

Well i dont think i will ever be able to clean it completely but i was told years ago when i got the house that it needed to be done (its on the survery) but it doesnt say what it needs to be replaced with apart from stones.

Some of them have got algae on them do i need to do anything to them?

thanks
