I can't imagine anyone will be able to help, but then again... mumsnetters know everything!

Does anyone have any experience of applying for permanent residency in Canada?

I emigrated to Canada but that was in 1981.... now I am in the UK...
What exactly are you looking for ?

My son has just emigrated to the US and was able to download the forms from the US Embassy website. Maybe the Canadian Embassy site has something similar?

I also have friends who migrated to Canada about 12 yrs ago. He already had a job to go to and then they applied for citizenship after five years. I think it was all pretty straightforward.

I think the rules have just changed (about 7 or 8 weeks ago) - it's less occupation driven now, and the age limit has gone up to 49. But the "score" you need to be accepted has gone up. Don't know the precise details though - most of our friends there moved years ago.

Wow, I knew you guys would know everything!

Don't need help with the practical stuff at the moment, that's already well in hand (although if anyone has any insight re the MMR vaccination and immigration, I'd appreciate that...).

My needs are more emotional! - moving with baby, moving away from grandparents, particularly my mum etc etc.

Anyone have any insights?

Philipat - well my mum was in Canada and I was in the UK, now she is a bit closer - France but I still see her 2 to 3 times a year.
We do phone and e-mail a lot. She has proper internet connection, we both have a digital camera and I send her loads of pictures of the kids (every week almost).

I guess it all depends on how close you are to your mum and what your motivation is for going there....
Also Canada is not always that expensive to fly to ? Where will you be goimg ? What province ? Nova Scotia is barely 5 hours away.

On the MMR thing I am not sure - I amsure they are pro vaccination but wheher this factors in.... also I know that some schools in the US require your child to be vaccinated - not sure if they are that strict in Canada and even then it could be a province thing.
