Does this seem odd to you?

My friend's funeral is next week and I've just been informed that the family are suggesting flowers or donations to Mencap. My friend had Bipolar and Personality Disorder dual diagnosis.

Do you think they meant MIND or is this just more of the denial they are in that he was mentally ill?

To begin with I thought "hallelujah! they are acknowledging his illness" Now I'm not so sure.

sorry to hear of your loss though.

yes, it is odd. as taxidriver says, maybe they somehow mistakenly think mencap is the most appropriate charity for his diagnosis???

Tommy · 24/07/2007 23:20

could you ask them why they have chosen that particlular charity? It may be that there is another reason that you don't know about?

His mother was a maternity nurse so you'd think she would have had some blinking idea!

Ho hum, I shall try and think of them positively. I must admit I did Google to double check that I was right in thinking that this was not exactly a mental health charity per se.

Think I'll do flowers and a note. I'd like to do some kind of reading but I'd probably just irritate his mother.

perhaps as a maternity nurse she only knows about maternity nursing?
do a reading if you would like to

One would hope that a maternity nurse who also provides post natal care would have at least some grasp of mental health issues and the relevant charities that support those with mental illness and their families and carers.

Government guidelines promote joined up working and so it is very poor to be working within health and not be aware of the basics imo.
