What part did you play in your school's nativity play?

Narrator? Mary? Angel? Barn yard animal?

i was a flowerpot. i wanted to be the fairy but instead i had to wear a stupid flower pot hat and sit at the front. the flowerpot next to me weed herself.

I was backstage shaking a bit of lino to simulate the noise of the angels approaching. My two best friends were Mary and an agel respectively

A bleedin' bird. I had to wear an Emu costume. They ran out of parts.

Mary when I was about 5 or 6, narrator later on about 10 or 11, when we no longer did nativity.

Always the fracking narrator. Year after year after year. I longed to have a tinsel halo and wings made out of coathangers but, no, narrator, narrator, narrator. And Claire Owen was always the angel. Cos she was a child moggel.

I was Mary once, my parents got out the photos to show dh just for a "laugh"

Dd, when she was 3, was an angel who got to carry the baby Jesus and give it to Mary. While she was walking with it the swaddling slowly unwrapped itself so she stopped an wrapped it up again (slowly) before handing it over

I was the only one in my school who played the bass recorder... So I was the bass recorder player tucked out of the way behind the piano.

I did get to play one of the rotten priests in The Good Samaritan in one summer play though. Wearing a curtain and riding a brush for a horse

Dd got a boy part once speccy in a school play about 1066, she was King Harold. Milked the dying scene

Donkey!

I was Mary, used my own Cheerful Tearful doll for baby Jesus. Sadly though, when it came to do a repeat performance in the church, I was ill and a hated rival took my part and she still used my doll

Wore grey wooley tights, grey polo neck jumper aan donkey ears and a tail.

Oh actually once I was a page boy in the cathedral play. They picked me , my twin and another girl as we all had matching bowl hair cuts.

At my secondary school, there was a live crib every year which started at the bottom of the village and there was a procession which made its way up the high street , singing carols, to the school chapel. People came from miles around to see it and still do, apparently. Traditionally, the Head Girl was Mary and the Deputy Joseph. However, the donkey was a little elderly and it was decided in my year that they were too heavy, so as the lightest prefect, I got the role as Mary. On one evening, my brother and a couple of friends came to watch. They stood chatting to me whilst I sat on the donkey at the bottom of the village waiting for the off. What I didn't know was that they were feeding the donkey laxatives, and the poor creature farted all the way up the high street then had diorrhea all the way up the aisle in church.
