Ds (4) has said to me in the last 24 hours

"mummy, why have you got purple under your eyes?"

"I love your tummy, it's so wobbly"

"your legs are prickly like daddys beard"

Putting on a new top - ds aged 3 falling about laughing and declaring 'that's not your T-shirt Mummy, here's yours' and handing me the manky top I've been wearing for the last 3 years

Mummy, you're so fat! (I am but I don't need my 5 year old to tell me!!!! )

My dd spent a whole day on holiday making up a song about my wobby tummy and singing it at the top of her voice

Durdle · 22/07/2007 09:41

My DD said to me 'mummy when I grown up I want to be big and fat like you' and my niece (2yrs) told me she loved my furry arms. Bless them, grrrrrr.

Curse the school's Healthy Eating education project! Until then ds1 accepted me completely uncritically and was fascinated by my wobbly belly-bag in a loving and unjudgemental way. Now he asks why I'm so fat, did I eat too much chocolate/cakes/sweets etc, and, if I say no to chocolate (I can't eat it because it upsets breastfed ds2), or to sweets (I just don't like them) etc, he comments "You're not having them because they will make you even fatter".

Last December, I thought I should make the effort for dd to have a lovely and fully decorated Christmas tree at home even though we planned to be away with family for the holidays.

As I was struggling to put the tree/lights up on my own (single Mum), dd who was watching from the sofa said 'ooh Mummy, you have a fat bottom'.

I was not pleased with this observation....

MrsScavo · 22/07/2007 15:32

We were in the car when DS2 (4) said

"Granny is much better than you, Mum"

Thanks Son!

Earlybird · 22/07/2007 15:33

Oh - guess it is relevant to add that the tree was 6 feet tall, so not a dinky thing.

mamado · 22/07/2007 15:36

whenever I sing dd1 [3.8] puts har hands over her ears and says 'don't sing mama, it makes my head hurt!'

pointydog · 22/07/2007 15:40

after hugging and kssing dd2 goodnight: 'you're lovely and soft mummy. Except for your hands which are crispy'
