Hi someone is sending me one but I've never had one before. How to I cash the order? Is it like a cheque?

Just take it to the post office and they hand over the cash. I had my first one a couple of weeks back. Apparently you can pay them into the bank as well, but not sure how that works.

Thanks, there isn't a lot of useful info on the web about things like that!

If it's uncrossed you can take it to the post office and they will give you the cash but if its crossed you must put it in your bank account and it is classed and treated as a cheque needing time to clear.

oooh, what does "crossed" mean? I never knew anything about that...

A crossed postal order is when you draw a line/s across it makes it more secure as only the named person can cash it,i always cross them with 2 lines across the counterfoil and PO.

If you cross it and write "A/C Payee" between the lines, it can only be paid into a bank account and only in the name of the person on the PO. (Most cheques are preprinted like that these days.)

I don't know what happens if the person you're sending it to doesn't have a bank account though.
