How to dispose of large houshold items?

schnapps · 15/07/2007 14:25

I need to get rid of some large household items. Suite, fridge freezer, dish washer, that kind of thing. They are no use to anyone so can't sell or give away, they just need to be chucked. How should I dispose of them? Skip? Is a man and van a better option? Are there restrictions/fees on tipping?

Any other ideas?

You could ring your council and see if they will pick them up. I know ours do. Or I suppose you could put them on freecycle cos people seem to use the oddest things for the weirdest purposes!

SOFA project. They come and take them for free, repair if can and give to those in need, or take apart and use the bits.

Are you absolutely sure they're no good to anyone? Because honestly, freecycle is great for getting rid of stuff you no longer need, and you'd be amazed what people will take off your hands!

My dp recently demolished some old wardrobes and was about to take the wood to the skip when we saw an ad from someone for "Any old bits of wood for a project" and he came and took away our broken wardrobes, worked perfectly.

If the fridge etc don't work you can give them away as spares/repairs, I guarantee you you'll get at least some interest in all your stuff.

Our council will collect but charge per item.

You could get dh to drive them a rough area and leave them for a bit a see if anyone *steals them
