this might be a bit of a strange thing to stress over...but I am getting stressed!!!
My dd (2yrs) was born with gorgeous curly hair - at a price!
when she wakes up in the morn and after naps, it is a fuzz ball from where she has rubbed on the bed. So everyday i have to dampen her hair with water to get the curls back. I am worried that this isn't good for her hair.
My concern is that her hair feels like it's drying out and also gets a damp smell after just one day.
Any one know of any child friendly products that might help please!!!

use detangling spray on her head, johmsons do this.....if ur concerened about the drynes just stick conditioner on her hair for 5 mins once a week

saralou · 11/07/2007 20:12

coditioner and water in a spray bottle, doesn't dry out then

charliecat · 11/07/2007 20:15

When you bath her,if her hair feels dry dont bother with the washing bit, just put some conditioner through it.
Next time shampoo, then conditioner. Use half decent stuff.

Was another thread about this a while back.

I'd second conditioner and water in a spray (that's what I do with dd who is also 2 and also a frizzball )

Hairdresser recommended infatreat which is conditioner specifically for los with curly hair but I haven't tried it yet.

SlightlyMadSpider · 11/07/2007 20:17

I would pop a very small amount of good conditioner in a spritzer type bottle and top up with water. Then use that to dampen her hair.

Also we found that DTDs hair benefitted from a shampoo and then adult conditioner rather than childrens conditioner or 2 in 1. Dove is currently my favoured.

both my girls are cursed with extremely curly hair which I have to keep long otherwise it goes even curlier and sticks out.

I just brush and put in a bobble unless we are going out then I let them have it culy and down.

Sorry, one more question,
do you wash your lo's hair every night? Especially if putting stuff in twice a day. Is it ok to wash every other day?

I wash dd's 2-3 times a week. In between, I just wet and condition. I find any more shampooing than that will really dry it out.

TaylorsMummy · 11/07/2007 20:35

my dd is mixed race so has very curly and dry hair.i wash it once a week.any more than that makes it dry out even more and lose it's natural oils.i normally use a small amount of oil moisturiser (from afro hair products shop) your lo might not need this, once a day and i spray in a leave in conditioner twice a day.there's a nice blueberry (i think) one from body shop or a boots coconut and almond one.don't overwash it!! if you are lucky and she enjoys having it washed then use a conditoner after,we use l'oreal 2 in 1, and brush that through.

orangecat · 11/07/2007 20:41

TM my dd is mixed race too, and I'm only washing once a wk with just mild shampoo. I don't want to use too many products, but am not sure what i should be doing. I guess you would recommend conditioner too, then?

TaylorsMummy · 11/07/2007 20:43

depends.how does it look? my dds would be awful without anything else.she hates having it washed so i use a 2-in-1.do you use any spray in it at all? a detangling spray is useful ime!!

orangecat · 11/07/2007 20:47

I put it up a lot, as gets into complete tangled mess otherwise, and brush while wet to get cute ringlets and avoid big hair. I usually have a bath with her, and do it then - no chance of getting her to sit still enough any other time. I guess a spray conditioner would help for morning brush when she isn't having a bath, though? Oh the pressure to get her hair right!!

LoveAngel · 11/07/2007 21:18

Constantly wetting hair dries it out (particularly curly hair). Wash it once a week, twice at most (only if it is really dirty). Use a good conditoner - and a leave-in conditioner after washing if the hair still feels dry. Use a light detangling spray in the morning to bring back the bounce, then comb & style (Loreal Kids or Tesco own brand detangling sprays are both very good and not as chemically harsh as some of the other brands).

hoxtonchick · 11/07/2007 21:22

i have very curly hair & wash it every day. no way could i face the world with the crazy hair i wake up with . i do use lots of products, hardcore conditioner & styling stuff & it isn't too dry or frizzy.

amidaiwish · 11/07/2007 21:32

DD2 has mad curly hair
i only wash it once a week
don't brush it
just leave it!
if i wash it more it gets really dry
if i brush it it becomes a frizz ball

citylover · 11/07/2007 22:54

My DS2 aged 6 has curly hair I don't comb it (much to my mother's disgust) and use Aveda Be Curly on it. It is expensive but lasts ages as you don't need to use much.

Also spritz in the morning when it is wild

MrsWeasley · 11/07/2007 23:08

my DD had lovely curly hair too and so does a lo I look after and I use this Its usually on a special offer and it works really well. I spray a bit(not a lot) on their hair and comb, it really is that easy. If I come across a big knot I spray it and it really does work. Can be used on wet and dry hair.
