Hi, would appreciate any feedback on this company (good and bad) as I'd like to get a few opinions before we go ahead.
Many thanks

I don't know anything about this company BUT my DH is a private client solictor and one of his specialisms is wills and probate.

Is this company part of a "proper" law firm, or simply a will writing firm? If the latter I would be VERY wary. It may save you money now, but end up costing lots more when the wills comes into affect during probate. Dh spends a lot fo time sorting out boched wills made by individuals and will wiriting firms.

These people are generally NOT lawyers, and they have not trained for years in the area. If you need anything in your will besides the bare basics, or you are above the tax thresholds, then Dh generally would recommend avoiding them completely, and would prefer peoplenot to at all overall anyway. Many are just not worth the paper they are written on, sadly.

A will drawn up by a solicitor is specialises in Wills and Probate (and tax ideally - so private client) is the best option, and is not always expensive at all. Cost will depend on your location int he country - London more expensive often - and what your will would entail.

Twiglett - He is more than willing too do it and he is the best person to deal with regarding it. Another MNetter has used him for wills before so he can do all the stuff via e-mail and telephone too if required. He's bathing DD at the moment, but can tell you more in an e-mail, along with the fees, etc.

You best bet is to e-mail him direct on rk(at)tayloremmet(dot)co(uk) and he will take it from there. Just tell him where you are from (MN!) and remind him that you are the person I (Claire) talked to him about tonight!

I hope that's okay.

Oh - and after hearing from him, don't worry if you decide not to go ahead and use him, for what ever reasons. He will still give you some good advice on what you need to do and what to think about, ready for if and when you do want to make a professional will.

I'll let him know.

Dh and I have wills written by Just Wills - they seemed pleasant, efficient and reasonably priced. They are currently doing amendments since arrival of ds. Cannot say how good they are because the wills haven't been 'put to the test' yet (thank goodness)

SofiaAmes · 08/09/2004 22:54

My dh needs a will, it's a little complicated by lots of children and ME. Do you think I could have an email word with your dh too!? I forget, where are you based. Would we need to meet in person?

ladymuck · 08/09/2004 23:10

Would second the advice about going to a solicitor rather than a will-writing firm. The latter often seem to be looking to sell a will-storage service rather than have anything decent in the way of will-writing, and Grizzly's comments also ring a warning bell - a decently drawn up will will cover all future children etc. Would obviously need to be changed on marriage or divorce though.

SofiaAmes - no problem at all, just e-mail at the address below. He's in the office today and tomorrow so will be able to reply quickly if need be. We are based in Sheffield but he can generally do wills via e-mail or phone if things need more clarification. He has done wills abroad in the past all via e-mail so not a problem.

Maybe I should get him to have an ad on Mumsnet!

Hulababy · 09/09/2004 11:02

ladymuck - you are right about the selling of storing a will. Your solicitor should offer to keep your wills for you int heir safes free of charge, or you can keep them yourselves. But don't pay!

Maybe I should e-mail the MN and ask, as not sure whether I am really allowed to post his details on here. He'd much prefer to be able to put in a proper ad (or even prepare an article) for the site and opay his fee TBH. Infact maybe the article would be good too - he has done all sorts of articles and presentations for companies, newspapers, old peopel's homes etc. Sure he could do one for families. Hmmmm....

Will contact MN I think!

I am sure he could consider it - with gentle persuasion

Actually, just e-mailed MN team. Maybe I should tell DH now
