How much uniform do I buy??

Am trying to work it out and get it all before I have this baby as the last thing I want to do is to have to go shopping after Xmas toget it all dorted out or even worse before Xmas with a new babay so may have to send DP!!

Anyway - ghow much should I buy? Was thinking -

2 pinifores
2 skirts
1 pair of trousers (which she has told me she will only wear if it snows!!)
7 shirts
5 jumpers
5 pairs of tights
1 Pair School Shoes
1 Pair School Boots

I want to have enough so that if I donlt manage to do a wash during the week she will be able to have clean clothes but not that much that she ends up growing out of it before getting a reasonable amount of wear out of it!!

SO what do you wise ladies have to say about how much I should buy??

Depends how often you intend changing her clothes (see current thread on do you send your kids to school in clean uniform every day). You could get away with less of everything (except the tights) if she can keep herself clean.

I got my dd

1 pinifore
1 skirt
1 trousers
2 shirts
2 polo tops
2 jumpers
1 cardigan
1 t shirt and shorts (for PE)
1 shoes
1 plimpsoles
6 tights

Time will tell if that is enough but i can't see her running out - if she does I'll be miffed.

linnet · 08/09/2004 12:28

my dd has...
1 pinafore
1 summer dress
2 white shirts, still has 2 from last year that she can wear if she gets the new ones dirty and I haven't time to wash them.
1 tie
1 cardigan which she always leaves at school, ggrr
school shoes which she got before the summer holidays as her feet hadn't grown so didn't need new ones.
gym shoes,
gym t-shirt
gym shorts

when she goes back after the October holidays I'll get her
1 pair of trousers
2 pairs of tights (she won't wear tights under her trousers but spends most of the winter in trousers so they don't get worn very often)
a winter coat

by April she'll be back in a new summer dress and will have grown out of the pinafore and trousers. But the beauty of summer dresses is that they can wear them at the end of one year and the beginning of the next, weather permitting of course.

DD has: 2 summer dresses
2 cardigans
2 pinafores
4 shirts

Plus blazer, hats, tie etc.

BUT her school uniform is all non-iron so don't have to worry about things not being ready and although there's only 3 of us i usually do a load of washing every night...

crumbs - you all seem to get a lot of uniform! My daughter has two pinafores (which are hardly worn and have been a waste as she prefers her trousers) 2 pair of trousers (only 2 because 1 wasn't enough when she wouldn't wear the pinafores) 3 shirts and two cardigans. The boys each have 2 trousers, two jumpers and three (because I found two was not enough last year) shirts. I find with three kids I have to wash every day anyway so this is well enough for all of them. They grow out of it so quick its not worth buying more than two pairs of trousers or skirts/pinafores I believe. I certainly won't bother buying dd anymore skirts or pinafores as she simply refuses to wear them, even on hot days!

My dds have each:
2 summer dresses
3 polo shirts
2 school sweatshirts
2 pairs trousers
1 fleece
1 tshirt and shorts for PE.
1 pair school shoes (last years still fit - yipee)
1 pair school pumps
1 pair wellies (indispensible)

Dd2 is wearing dd1's castoffs from last year!

My dds tend to wear trousers in the bad weather because of where we live - much easier to get in and out of full waterproofs.

Our DD is 5 and has just started Year 1. To be honest I would ditch the pinafores unless she can get in and out of them herself! Skirts are great with a blouse/polo shirt. Imo schools are always overheated and our DD hardly ever wears her cardigans - although she starts off in one at the beginning of the day. Everything is bought with her being able to undress/dress herself in mind.
I have in her wardrobe at the mo...
2 summer dresses
1 pinafore (mistake)
2 skirts
5 polo shirts (clean one every day)
2 blouses (fiddly buttons though)
Loads of long and short socks (especially those with the blue gingham ruffle that look fab with the blue summer dresses)
6 pairs of tights (imo M&S are best)
2 Cardigans
school shoes
wellies
outside coat
raincoat (if I'd thought I would have got a good coat that was rainproof instead what I bought!)
No trousers as she won't wear them.......
lunchbox and juice cup
book bag
pe bag
3 white PE t shirts
2 black shorts

Asda stuff is fine despite being incredibly cheap. M&S stuff is good quality but you pay for it. I find the fit of their clothes a little on the small size personally so DD has a mixture of the two. HTH
