May be moving there.

Think we may rent our home out in London and rent in NY and maybe look to buy out there later.

Manhattan is v.v. expensive to buy somewhere that is 3+ bedrooms.

Has anyone got any info/advice for me? Would consider Brooklyn/Bronx.

Thanks - been looking mostly at Brooklyn as realise 3 beds in Manhattan are way out of our price range.

Anyone know anything about where to/where not to live in Brooklyn?

House would be fantastic but may have to settle for co-op/condo (although some of these apartments are amazing).

Ah now Hoboken is nice - Frank Sinatra territory !!

Long Island is good too

yeahinaminute · 04/07/2007 16:05

Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill - I think are meant to be "the" areas - nice Brownstones etc

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 16:14

Park slope? Although it might be incredibly expensive. I thought manhattan would have been "cheaper" than london?

My friend is just coming back from NY - they lived in a very large 3 bed apartment overlooking Bloomingdales on the Upper East side. It was a very safe area, 5 mins walk away from Central Park and with quite a few other families with children in the same block as them. Lots of lovely local restaurants too

Their rent was around $7000 per month IIRC.

Ilovemyboy · 04/07/2007 16:18

Saw some nice apartments in the 650 - 700k range in Hoboken.

What do you know about this place?

Will do my own research but it is always nice to hear about it from someone who has spent a bit of time there.

few houses for sale in Brooklyn heights/ cobble hill etc - enjoy

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 16:21

blimey soapbox! . Mind you that I'd love to live near bloomingdales...

Ilovemyboy · 04/07/2007 16:22

$7000 a month

Manhattan is supposed to be cheaper than London but I haven't come across anything that has convinced me of that.

I like this

soapbox · 04/07/2007 16:24

I suspect you would pay more than £3500 a month for a huge apartment opposite Harrods or Harvey Nicks though

Coolmama · 04/07/2007 16:26

best place to look is www.craigslist.com - they have the best listings for sale and rental - in fact - is a good place to start to find pretty much anything. good luck

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 16:26

yes, possibly . I'd love to live in Manhattan (sigh)or Brooklyn.

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 16:27

what about the area near Columbia University?

poppyh · 04/07/2007 17:24

What about New Jersey? More for your money there. Wish I was moving to NY

Ilovemyboy · 04/07/2007 17:31

Thanks for your suggestions.

Will check them out.
