our male rabbit used to poo all over the place, so I dont think thats unusual, maybe he is hiunting that he wants a different food

as for the run, if he is having exercise on the lawn not having a run shouldnt be a problem

our rabbit does exactly the same with her straw, she moves it so she has bare patches to lie in

Rabbits actually eat their poo - they are meant to as they reabsorb food from it (my vet sister told me that).

My only thought is that perhaps he is lonely. We bought 2 rabbits together and they don't do what you describe. One rabbit loves to be handled - the other one does not and tries to run away. You have to keep handling them though, especially when they are on their own. My DH built a wooden frame that sits against the hutch so that we can leave the hutch door open and they can hop in and out. The frame is supprounded by wire mesh. Our hutch sits on a concrete part of the garden and I feel they get enough exercise that way. The frame is tall so the kids can stand in it and touch the rabbits without them escaping too fer. We saw it on the telly.

Have you had your rabbit vaccinated against miximatosis (sp?). We need to do that soon as they can pick up the bug fron hedgehogs that have had fleas in the garden.

We only put wood shavings in the toilet side. The rest is hay in the bed and middle 'garden section'. We put newspaper in first.

This is all very normal rabbit behaviour! I used to keep rabbits and every single one of them would 'rearrange' their bedding after I put it in the hutch for them. Don't worry about him standing in his foodbowl, rabbits have very different health and safety standards to us so I don't think he thinks he is being dirty.
Finally, I think your rabbit sounds like he needs to settle down a bit, he is trying to establish himself in his own space. Lots of very gentle, short periods of handling and gradually he will develop confidence.
I think you do very well to beable to pick him up again after his run around the garden

I hate to say it but many rabbits are not cuddly, sometimes they can be very aloof. Yours sounds okay and he is very young, his chracter hasn't developed yet. I would feed him lots of greenstuff, particulary to tops of carrots they love that! But don't feed him lettuce!!! This is very very bad for rabbits. It can create alot of gas in their stomachs and cause bloat. I lost a rabbit this way when I was very young, I was devastated.
He'll grow big in no time. Lots of careful handling.

Have you tried moving his food bowl elsewhere, Lisa? He may want to use his current 'dining' area as a loo and would be happier if his food was somewhere different. Our rabbit used to move his bedding about, as well. It's a good idea to handle him as much as possible in order to socialise while he's still young.

Bunnies are very cute. Cats that pee and sht on the floor all the time, otoh, are not* cute, grrrr.

Be grateful that the food is staying in the food bowl, poos or no poos! My darling little guinea pigs feel the need to put their paws on to the feeding bowl, causing it to flick up and spread the food nicely around the cage which they then choose to ignore !! I couldn't possibly expect them to eat off the floor now could I? Who do I think they are?!!
