Can't seem to find a thread so thought I'd start one. Some things I am nosy about, thought others probably would be too :
*Do you feel your child is ready or not?
*How long is their 'settling in' / faffing about period before fulltime school?
*Got/seen any uniform bargains?
*Are they having school dinners or packed lunches?
*If you work, how does your childcare work?
*How are you feeling about it?

The school ds goes to says that uniform itself is voluntary ... but everybody wears it - makes life easier for parents!

DS wears plain polo shirts, and a logo jumper - we managed on 3 polo shirts and 2 jumpers this year ... mind you, they're starting to look a bit the worse for wear now!

DS's uniform shirts are red though ... I am soooo glad they're not white - they turn grey in about a week!

Chippyminton, you are not a fraud, you are to be saluted! Was that 3 under 3?

Can i join too? dd2 is off in Sept

I can't face all the questions - but she'll be fine! so will I, packed lunches, erm 2 half days then in full time,

what other questions were there?

bobsmum · 05/07/2007 16:59

Can't believe the number of you who's children have staggered starts! Is that because they start so much younger in England?

Our transition visits were all done before the summer holidays. (The schools have been off for a week now).

Ds had 3 afternoons at the primary school and then his teacher came to the nursery for 3 afternoons too.

The nursery teacher will be there every morning for the first week which will be great. And it's the same dinner lady at primary school as it is in nursery - except she has to be Mrs X instead of just her first name - ds is a bit confused

Bought some PE shorts in Asda yesterday, but will need ds with me before we get school trousers.

He'll be going in shirt and tie on the first day, but after that I'm sure we'll be in polo shirt territory - can't imagine him managing tie tying on a gym day!

whose

Still haven't found my (2 separate lots) of nametapes. Think DS must have eaten them.

Had our reception parents meeting (for dd2)on Weds night.

ready? She is even going to be bored from the looks of things!
settling in? What nonsense! Faff is the word, doesn't start til 20th Sept, and not full day until Oct 1. Birthday January, and she's a full-time nursery kid since 8 months old, so again, BO-RING! Her catchphrase already.
uniform? bottle green uniform a real pain. Decided to go for jogging bottoms for this child as so much easier for her to change for PE, but John Lewis's have this horrible elastic cuff that rides up the ankle, and the National Schoolwear shop closed down! grrrrr. and HELP, anyone?
lunches? school dinner like it or not. Actually the dinners are nice, I've tried them!
work/childcare? It doesn't work-I booked up almost all my holiday so that we could have one family holiday together in August, (I thought she would start earlier than dd1 did back then, who was an August birthday) and now I have to take unpaid leave I guess, unless boss sacks me. Even more awkward because I have to cover with someone who's dd1 is starting secondary, and we've already had a row about summer.
feeling? Disappointed and upset-the school has clearly gone downhill since dd1 started in 2004, despite heroic efforts by head et al.

I am also feeling THRILLED that both my kids will be in school-the last 3 years juggling (badly) school, nursery, childcare of every kind under the sun, and work have been unpleasant and I hope it will improve for us all now!

Dylon machine dye for cotton joggers? Bung in anything else with difficult stains while you're doing it.
My DD's faff period is same as yours, I'm not WOHM but could have had a cheaper later holiday if I'd known sooner.
