I heard the news about her miscarriage, and of course my first thought was how sad it is for them, but I have to admit I also wonder what contraceptive they are using; I thought Leo was a "surprise", and I find it hard to believe they were planning another one - she's 47, after all. Maybe it's just because I can't imagine having more than 2, and find it hard to imagine voluntarily having 5!

Rhubarb-she and the kids are RC, he goes to mass with them which had the Daily Mail in uproar (they've gone quiet noe the Tories have a "left-footer" as party leader, I'm RC so I can say it!)

Maggie managed to produce twins, hence only the once...

Hi, Rhubarb! angharad has answered the "only once" question for you...

I think the Cherie thing is particularly sad when you think in retrospect of the news coverage of them in Cumbria, arms round each other under the brolly, wreathed in smiles and surrounded by kids. According to one report I saw, she did know she was pregnant at that point, and she looked really happy.

Well said sml

I bet they were both well aware she was pregnant and it was an in-joke between them. Just the sort of thing a couple might well say to 'tease' people a bit and throw them off the scent. She certainly seems to love babies and have a rapport with them. Not a huge fan of politicians but people I know who have met Cherie thought she was lovely and v sincere. Good working class lass who worked her way up, too. Though I won't vote Labour while they still give vile Margaret Hodge a job.

Twins! Of course! I wonder if Denis thought it was so terrible the once that he never tried it again! Oh I shouldn't be so bad!!

Whatever age she is Cherie should be allowed to decide whether she wants kids or not, and if it was planned or not is none of our business really is it? I mean I wouldn't even ask my sister if any of her kids were planned so why should I wonder about Cherie?

It was poignant that Gordon and Sarah personally delivered their condolences, I think the bond between those 4 will be a little closer now. What a terrible thing to happen to a woman of any age!

My mum used to teach at the boarding school Carol Thatcher went to and apparently Carol used to have to stay there for holidays as parents were to busy to have her. Also she never turned up for parents evenings, sports days etc etc.

oxocube · 08/08/2002 18:15

aloha, thats really sad, even for a Thatcher!

Aloha, us long-term Londoners remember Margaret "Hoxha" all right when she led Islington Council's Education Department right down the toilet, perhaps? I too feel the same about her, btw.

OK Gracie I give in. Sorry if I offended you by my comments. As I previously said, I wasn't targeting anyone specific, but I obviously made you feel that I was.

We'll have to agree to differ on our views That's what's so good about Mumsnet (which was the point I originally meant to make).
