Told off today for using play equipment at school

I know children aren't allowed to use it after school and of course everybody does so when I was told off (with friendly pat on arm by teacher) for letting my three do the obstacle course between school and gate I said "oh yes, sorry - I know we're not allowed, just flaunting the rules, sorry again, ha ha ha !". Teacher was cool with this and I was only mildly embarrassed.

Now I'm thinking why the hell can't we use the play equipment. I just know it will be insurance related but surely it's my lookout? No? I would have thought that if they put up signs saying "not our problem" or words to that effect, as in supermarket car parks then we could let the children use the play stuff while on the premises at our pwn risk.

I'm not talking 24 hour access - it's just that quite a few of us drag younger or older ones along on the school run and they need occupying while we wait for teachers to ring the bell/open the door.

What do you think?

Haf to resist putting this in AIBU.

when ds was in nursry/reception we had this problem. as the play equipment was outside the classroom s. a lot of tots running arround would have caused a disruptio. also think it is an insurance issue.(or H &S)

same at dd's school - it's a health and safety issue I'm sure, and worries about being sued if a child hurts themselves, despite a parent/carer right beside them.

makes it esp hard when some parents do flaunt the rules with my little dd2 trying her damndest to get onto the thing and me telling her she isn't allowed to

newlife you probably wouldnt but there are other out there who would sue if they child got hurt, its down to the parents to take things along to occupy a child, I always have wherever I went.

No, I wouldn't sue because I detest that attitude and culture. I'm lucky to get there with all persons dressed and poo free (ds2 that is) at 5 to 9 and 10 past 3, never mind packing activities.
