Tillysmummy - don't pay anyone anything! Especially not for a three year old. My ds is with Bruce & Brown - he is two and a half. Their kids don't go in to a "model book" until they are at least four - because a) they change so much so quickly and b) who's to say they'll still enjoy modelling next week, let alone in three months time. Instead, they take a couple of snapshots every six months or so - which you pay £5 towards processing - the best of these then goes on to a photostatted head sheet which is sent out to all the clients. If he's still modelling at 4 we have the option of a professional picture going in to the main book. This costs - can't remember how much, about £150 I think - but it is taken off his subsequent earnings, you are not asked for the money up front, and if he doesn't earn they don't get. Be very wary of joining any agency that asks you for a lump sum up front - good ones exist that don't so why bother?

I won't pay the cheque I had written now to Model's direct. Ridiculous really. I am so glad I've had this conversation with you. Willow2 can you give me B & B's details please ? thx x

Willow2 · 07/08/2002 16:46

call them on 020 8968 5585 and they'll tell you how to go about sending in some photographs. Good luck.

So glad that this thread has started as we are just in the prosess of finding some good photos to send to Little Acorn's!! Certainly will not bother now - thank you emilys.

emilys · 15/08/2002 09:59

i feel bad deterring people but it is a lot of money to shell out - and i really do feel like i've been taken for a ride and don't want anyone else to feel as stupid as me!! I sent a letter at the beginning of last week (since being inspired by this thread) and still heard nothing back ..... i just want my money back and to forget the whole thing.

Does anyone have any experience of Models Direct UK who have just contacted me after I entered DD in the bounty.co.uk baby competition. They say shes been succesfull and they want to offer her a contract. It costs about £100 for three years, you can update the photo as often as you want but obviously they dont guarantee you'll get work. No castings though clients choose the model from their book. Waste of money?

Willow2 · 16/08/2002 11:58

Where are they based and who are their clients?

sparkles · 17/08/2002 01:08

Ames - same question from me , I'd be interested to know more about Models Direct.

Willow2 - they're based in London , clients include Mothercare and Adam, ever heard of them ?

My son was offered a contract from Models Direct but we decided not to take it up. We got the feeling that they offered everyone a contract and had hundreds of children on their list so the chances of being picked were low. They did send back our photos though so the only thing it cost was the stamp and the initial phone call. When I did phone and was given another number to call I heard all this advertising rubbish and just put the phone down and dialed the original number again. I just told them that I wanted the correct informaton and not to have to wade through all that rubbish and they gave me it OK without complaint. I do think its all a bit of a con though.

Willow2 · 20/08/2002 21:08

Ames - look down this thread for info on how a proper agency does business. Can't say I've ever heard of Models Direct - doesn't mean they're no good, but I wouldn't shell out that amount of cash. It just isn't necessary.

ames · 21/08/2002 11:24

I got that feeling too Eulalia. Actually the novelty of the idea has worn off so I think I'll leave it to. I think dd has got better things to be doing! Goes without saying she's gorgeous enough to be a model so I think we'll leave i at that!

tracyhay · 15/10/2002 23:35

hi!
I've just been approached by models direct about my son Tyler (they asked me, i wasn't looking at all for this) and was wondering about them. there stuff (mags and client list) seemed really impressive but i was put off by the money business. Then again he has been asked by scallywags too (who managed someone in eastenders, his name escapes me at this late hour!) but they also asked for money to go in the book! i wasn't serious about it anyway. Tyler is a right flirt and probably enjoy it!

Tillysmummy · 16/10/2002 08:18

tracyhay my experience of Models Direct is they take your money and run !

Clarinet60 · 16/10/2002 11:18

Just to add:
Never, ever pay money to work.

I was caught out like this by an agency when I was a naive youngster. No photos, no work, just bogged off with my cash.

kimsy · 31/08/2003 21:17

i was offered a contract by model's direct for my son decided not take it up after hearing they were on watchdog!
go to the watchdog web page and you will see the right up people have written about how they got scamed and ripped off!!
people paid money and never heard from then again!

Dahlia · 31/08/2003 21:29

We paid Models Direct £100 for a 3 year contract and never heard a thing from them. Total rip off.

yodel · 03/09/2003 23:50

can someone let me know of a modelling agency for my four year old daughter that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg just to get ripped off?? Anywhere in the london area.

msj · 24/10/2003 19:35

Dear All

I live in Bracknell and have been asked to take my son Riley into an Agency called Lil' Devils in Reading. Has anyone heard of them?

zippitippitoes · 01/08/2006 10:27

I was momentarily confused by this thread.. I thought a modelling thread with only 50 posts?

There are a lot more recent threads than this CS..maybe start one with lil devils in the title
