After the previous thread on which people proudly proclaimed our left wing liberal tendencies I thought you might enjoy testing whether you really are what you say /link{http://www.politicalcompass.org/here}

For the record I scored -2.88 and -4.82

Another pinko here: -6.25 and -6.21

SenoraPostrophe · 02/09/2004 10:05

Hooray, now we really can have an "I'm leftier than you" debate - that'll annoy Coddy.

left-right: -6.75
lib/auth: -5.95

Now I'll see how I compare to everyone else. Then maybe I'll do some work (but would I really be contributing anything? ).

hester · 02/09/2004 10:10

-8.88, -5.85. Keep the red flag flying!

woolly liberal

i think the questions were phrased to make more ring-wing/authoritarian positions sound morally 'worse', if there is any reality to different morals being worse or better

i actually thought that in my heart i was more right-wing than this. not in my votes tho.

acnebride · 02/09/2004 10:26

ring-wing?? right-wing?? i'll stick to ring-wing after seeing that documentary on the silver ring thing.

I re-did the test pretending to be a "Right wing conservative". Didn't put "stongly" into any of the responses, but just agreed with the likely "conservative" response - eg agreed wthat bsuinessmen were more important that artists, that abortion was always wrong, disagreed with the legalisation of marijauna etc. Came up with +5.00/+4.72.

No-one has commented on Tony Blair's postion firmly in the Right Wing, Authoritarian camp, alongside Silvio Berlosconi and John Howard! Now there's a surpirse!

I was on Iona in August and went to look at John Smith's grave and thought about "what might have been"!

Am I the only one interested in Tony Blair's relative position?

Is it just that I still haven't got over the disappointment of having a "Labour" Party (or as dh calls it t "The New Tony, I mean Tory" Party) that seems to have sold out ALL its principles -expcet the one being hungry for power - and is now doing/prposing things that the Tory party only ever DREAMT of.

Or should I "get over it" and accept that in our current democratic system we have now morphed in an American system, where there is no Right and Left - just shades of Right. And that, to quote Ken Livingston, "if voting changed anything, they'd abolish it".

SenoraPostrophe · 02/09/2004 12:56

pb - don't get over it.

Too many people have, which is why Labour keep getting back in despite not being Labour at all.

Prettybird · 02/09/2004 13:05

Being in Scotland I do have a choice. In addtion to "New Labour", there is the SNP and the Scottish Socialist Party, as well as the LibDems. Unfortunately, at the Scottish Parliament, we don't always (yet?) have the right calibre of politican.

What makes me sad is that (it appears) so many people don't perceive that there is a choice and overlook the LibDems, seeing them as "unelectable" - so that at Westminster we now have the worst possible of worlds in our Two Party, First Past the Post system. Two right wing parties which we are stuck with, because the people don't believe that there is any alternative. No wonder the turnouts at elections are collapsing.
