Help!! Lost baggage!

Can anyone help with a lost luggage problem? Dd1 flew with BA from Barcelona to Aberdeen last Tuesday but her bags went missing. She reported it at Aberdeen airport but absolutly nothing has happened.

She has tried to call BA countless times but no one ever answers the phone. The airport say they can't help and her travel insurance won't pay up unless she gives them a Lost Luggage report from BA, which she can't get because they don't answer the phone.

She's due to come out to Nigeria to visit us next week and all her summer clothes are in the bag, plus her make-up and shoes.

Is there anything else we can do to get things moving - she's pretty desperate.

It happened to us when we flyed easy jet. We reported it at the easy jet office in the airport and they filled in a form which had a reference number on it. I assume BA do the same. She may have to go back to the airport and do this as it sonds as if she hasn't.

suedonim · 24/06/2007 16:43

She has done that and has a reference number. It's traceable on the net but it just shows up as no information. She's also emailed BA but no reply. Poor thing is going round in circles as no one will speak to her!

Still no baggage and still no contact with BA.

Can anyone suggest anything else, please?

This website says you can track your baggage using the baggage reference number she was given when she filed the missing bag report.

Or she can try contacting BA customer support? Someone should answer the phone there at least...

She can't really, Cali, because she's got a summer job. It's a week now.

Earlybird, when she looks on line it just says something like 'Not yet traced'. When she phones it either puts her on hold (it's not a freephone no) or has a message saying they are too busy to answer now and to try again later.

I've tried to find a different BA phone number but there's nothing on the web that I can see.

Sue - I'd call any BA number I could and ask/plead/beg for their assistance. Say that she's tried to follow the 'recommended' lost baggage proceedure, but is having no joy and can they please help. Maybe they could even put her through to a human on an internal/non publicised number.

FWIW - here's an entire directory. I'd call every number. Whoever answers may be desperate to transfer her call elsewhere, but she may get someone who is helpful....or at least can give her some useful information. I'd even try the 'Travel Clinics' to see if they can help.

They won't hang up on her because they can't be rude to customers. Make sure she gets the names of whoever she speaks to - will make them accountable for their advice/actions. Also she can call/ask for them again if she needs to rather than have to repeat her whole story to whoever picks up the phone.

I used to travel alot, and you have to be tenacious to get information/help in situations like these. Good luck....!

suedonim · 26/06/2007 19:20

Thank you so much for all those numbers! I'm passing them on to dd.

She says that today she got as far as being put on hold but had to give up eventually as she needed to visit someone. At least she had some good news there - her godmother is expecting her 2nd baby in Dec.

Dd spoke to a real person today who seems only to be able to access the same info dd can access online. They still have no idea whether her bags are in Spain or the UK. No compensation will be paid until 45 has elapsed.

It looks as though dd will now have to buy new clothes etc before coming out here to visit us on Monday. Being a professional shopper, she has already eyed up some bargains in the sales! But she's upset that some presents she bought are still missing and a book she had as a birthday present, too.

The whole thing is so annoying, she's going to complain when she's home again.

Update! [grin Dd received a phone call yesterday to say her bags were at Aberdeen airport and then they were delivered to her house late last night. She's so relieved. Mind you, she leads a troubled life for one so young - everything needs washing but her washing machine has broken down....

She's still going to complain to BA about their 'system'. It seems ridiculous that she was told one day they had no idea where her bags were, then the next day said bags mysteriously appear in Aberdeen.

Anyway, thanks to all for the advice and for listening.

Great news for dd, and glad to offer any useful ideas for getting a response from BA. Must say though, sounds as if they simply needed time to sort out the muddle, and preferred not to speak to customers who would only (justifiably) give them a hard time. Not a good way to treat customers (huge understatement).

Did they offer your dd any sort of compensation/vouchers for future travel, etc? If they didn't, they should have.

suedonim · 29/06/2007 17:22

I agree, it does sound as if they had a big muddle somewhere. Dd says there were quite a few people on her flight who were reporting lost luggage last week.

Dd hasn't been offered any compensation that I know of, but no doubt she'll chase that up!

I always put my address inside the bag as well in case the label gets ripped off as eventually they do look in the bag as happened to my Aunt who got her luggsge back a month later!

She probably did have her details inside, BGD. Her boyfriend's stuff was also missing and afaik, that has arrived ok as well.

CF, I'm not paying excess baggage for her, lol!!

Omg, this is unbelievable. Dd1 went to the airport this morning at 4.30am to start her trip to see us, only to find her flight has been cancelled. She's been told to come back tomorrow, instead.

She said the airport was full of armed police, which, in view of the hundreds of irate passengers, was probably just as well. I hope the airline picks up the taxi bills as it's bl%dy expensive going from town to the airport.

Dd2 is going to be so disappointed when I wake her up and tell her.

OP posts:
lizziemun · 02/07/2007 07:50

that because of the terroist attack at glasgow airport on saturday.

All airport are having major restrictions on entering and a large police presents.

suedonim · 02/07/2007 08:34

Yes, the armed police presence is due to Saturday's events but the flights chaos seems to be due to over-booking and no planes being available.

I wonder why airlines can't text/email people to tell them not to turn up? It seems a simple thing to do, even if they just reach a percentage of would-be passengers.
