Hey there Rhubarb! Hi I had to set up this theead because I've been meaning to ask you this for ages. you may not recall but I used to live in Preston (pre dd) and as dd's grandmother and aunty live there I often visit.

Now dd's over 2 I was wondering if you could enlighten me on any good parks, playgrounds or anything else child friendly around the town (sorry, its a city now, keep forgetting!) To be honest I usually end up at the Toy Soldier in Deepdale with the wacky warehouse attached which dd loves as its a special treat for her, but I'm getting a little bored (!) and was hoping to find somewhere outdoors if we manage to get some sun soon, but can't recall seeing ANY playgrounds while I lived there (but of course I wasn't looking at the time!) I know pretty much all the area fairly well so if you could just point me in the right direction - and we could meet up for coffee one day if you like?! Cheers

Hi Lizzer - yes I do remember you saying you came from Preston! Well right near to us there is Avenham and Miller park, no swings but some lovely walks with ducks by the river and open spaces to play football or frisbee. Then just near the entrance to the park there is the Continental Pub on Riversway, children are allowed in the conservatory area, there is a no-smoking section. At the weekends they have Captain Coconuts open - an indoor play area for kids, but they also have an outdoor play area too which is pretty good. As both of these places are very close to where I live, I could join you for a pint (I mean half!).

In the centre there is the library, the kids section is great and on Wednesday 10.30 -11.00 and Friday 10.15 - 10.45 there is storytime. Opposite the entrance to the library, in the same building, there is a workshop place that usually has something on during the summer holidays such as designing your own t-shirts, clay modelling, etc. Further into Fulwood there is Moor Park which has a pretty good outdoor playground and again, lots of open space for football and stuff.

So quite a lot really, I will do some more thinking and will post again if I come up with anymore! When were you thinking of coming?

Rhubarb, hi thanks for you reply. I have a sneaky suspiscion (sp?) that I know where you live!! The only reason is that dd's grandmother lives there too!! If its not the same bit it must be very close! We used to live up in Avenham (nice!) so know the park v well and the continental (a regular sunday drinking spot pre dd!) I took dd when she was about 18 motnhs but the equipment was too big really. Oh I'm dying to know if I'm right about the street - am going to your website to see if there's a contact email there to ask you...
