I have had some today and they feel fine in my eyes, but my vision seems poorer than when i was wearing my glasses.

I am short sighted and my near sight seems worse with them in (computer screen is not as clear) and my vision of stuff far away isn't as good either.

Should i get them changed or will i get used to it.
I asked the optician if my vision should be as good as in glasses and he said almost.

What sort are they nutcracker? And do you have an astigmatism?

nutcracker · 29/08/2004 18:44

They are the soft monthly disposables and i do have a slight astigmatism in my left eye, which does seem to be the worst at the mo.

My near vision has definatly been affected though whereas with my glasses it is fine.

Hmmm just tried looking through one eye and my left is whats making it all blurred. Through just me right eye it all looks fine.

My eyesight is definitely better with glasses than contact lenses and I have an astigmatism too. However the advantages of wearing CLs rather than glasses (which trigger migraines with me) outway the minor loss of clearness I get. My optician says there are CLs which correct astigmatisms, but he's not happy with them ATM, something to do with the permiability or whatnot.

You do get used to it though, although even after wearing CLs for 10 years I still go to push my (nonexistant) glasses up the bridge of my nose

nutcracker · 29/08/2004 18:54

LOL Lydia I have been doing that all day

I think I could put up with it for most things but the computer screen is really quite blurred and I am due to go back to college in sept and i'm worried i won't be able to read the board.

Oh and i'm hoping to start driving lessons in the next few mths too.

I had a probelm with soft lenses as they couldn't correct for my astigmatism. Distant objects were fuzzy. My vision if excellent with my gas permiable lenses. You can get soft lenses that can correct for astigmantim, called iirc Toric lenses. I don't know if they do these as daily disposables. You could try gp ones, but they are harder to get used to.

Thanks, I have to go back some time next week so I will mention it to them then.
I think my mom has ones to correct an astigmatism and hers cost slightly more but are soft.

I'll have to see how i get on in the next week.

Will have to type and read with one eye closed for now

Get your optician to check it out for you anyway. I haven't any problems reading the PC screen, sometimes I have to blink a bit to kind of put things in 'focus', but maybe that means I'm spending too long staring at the screen!

I can't drive in my glasses as I haven't had them updated since I got my lenses.........

I'm short sighted and remember the first time I wore contact lenses. I assume you are not used to wearing glasses for close up work? This was my problem, I remember going into work and had to do some copy typing, the words were jumping about all over the shop on the page because I just wasn't used to reading whilst having corrected vision for my short sightedness. I could however see perfectly long distance whilst wearing them. There is a chance you could be wearing them 'inside out' where they are not as comfy on the eyeball and your vision is slightly worse. I'd give it a few more days, see how it goes and then go back if you're still having trouble.

sportyspice · 29/08/2004 21:09

It probably took me about 3 weeks and an awful lot of hassle trying to get them in and out!! I use to wear various different colours and apparently my pupils are smaller than the average so they never did fit terribly well. If you're not getting on with them speak to the optician but imo there are so many nice glasses that i would rather be without the hassle.

nutcracker · 29/08/2004 21:18

I don't mind wearing my glasses that much but Ds has a habit of pulling them off or very kindl handing them to me in the morning whilst squeezing them very tightly

At the mo I do also hate how i look without my glasses

Nutty - I've gone back to glasses because I don't see as well in contacts, like you, I'm short sighted with an astigmatism in my left. I just wear daily disposables now on special occasions. I can wear them for about 5 hours even if I haven't worn them in a month or so.

nutcracker · 29/08/2004 21:25

Have just taken them out, what a relief.
Now my glasses feel weird.

nutcracker · 29/08/2004 21:25

You know Luckymom I think I may be better doing that too.

Back in the 80s I had the gas permeable lenses. I was fine until I started working in a pub, then the smoke got too much & I went back to glasses.

I've got some daily disposables for dancing, but they don't correct my astigmatism so my sight isn't as good as in glasses. I have terrible problems getting them in & out & end up with bloodshot eyes. Can never work out if they are inside out!

nutty I had a day when I couldn't see out of one eye & when I took the lens out there were 2 in there! (& I'm with you on not looking right without glasses- my face looked naked!)

chloeb2002 · 30/08/2004 19:32

Ive now had my contacts for a month, They are monthly soft lenses. I have one toric and one non. I know this may seem odd, but try giving them a good clean? I had real problems with mine not long after had them and they first went blurry then scratchy. I was told to put the lense either between my thumb and fore finger or palm of my hand and rub it quite vigorously with some cleaner all in one stuff before i stored them overnight. They have been much better since. might be worth a try? ive also changed to re nu to clean with as its better for my eyes and lenses.
