Would anyone be interested in a book club thread?

The vague idea at present would be to choose a book at the start of the month, and then discuss after a couple of weeks or so. I have no previous experience of Book Clubs so if anyone has, or has any pointers about how it could work virtually, they'd be very welcome!

The first book suggested is 'When We Were Orphans' by Kazuo Ishiguro.

What does everyone think?

Books just arrived from Amazon. Baby up for afternoon nap, the sun is shining, the sunbed is calling me. Only problem is which one to start with?

Mine have just appeared too, now just need a trip to the supermarket for the wine !

Oh my ! I have nine books to read in 3 months - Well lets hope DH likes take-aways!

Lois, I did think about choosing Fast Food Nation but thought it might be a bit heavy to start the group off.

Crystaltips, I don't think you have to read all three books if you don't want to. I think Bettys just thought it would give everyone a choice - is that right Bettys? Of course, it depends how often you want to eat takeaways and drink wine!

It's up to you to read as many or as few books as you want. Having 3 books just gives more choice to those who only want to read one.

A quick recap;
Books to read in August - Discuss September

  1. When We Were Orphans - Kazuo Ishiguro
  2. Atonement - Ian McEwan
  3. Aberystwyth Mon Amour - Malcolm Pryce (Drinking recommendations on an earlier post)

Read September - Discuss October

  1. Regeneration - Pat Barker
  2. Last Orders - Graham Swift
  3. The End Of The Affair - Graham Greene

Read October - Discuss November

  1. Bad Blood - Lorna Sage
  2. The Last Time They Met - Anita Shreve
  3. Lost Geography - Charlotte Bacon

This month's ongoing discusssion is the Philip Pullman trilogy 'Hia Dark Materials'

Bargain alert! At www.etsp.co.uk you can buy any 3 books for £1 each, with no commitment to buy any more. There is a limited selection, of course, but they do have Atonement, The Blind Assassin, True History of the Kelly Gang and (the best bargain of all) £1 for 3 volumes of Lord of the Rings!

I would love to join in with the book club, but am such a slow reader these days!

Bye for now - am going on my hols! Have I missed the Philip Pulman discussion? I am taking him on holiday (metaphorically speaking). Other holiday reading might include a quick peak at mumsnet via local internet cafe sometime next week
