How much does a cleaner cost?

I'm doubling my hours per week at work to 30 in a couple of week's time. I want to get a cleaner for a couple of hours a week. How much should you pay do you reckon?

I don't think you can compare Florida prices with UK prices, but in case you're interested, I have someone come every other week to clean the whole house. Either 2 or 3 of them come at once (it's a family), they bring their own supplies, and take 2-3 hours. They charge $80 (45GBP), which is very reasonable.

Wouldn't a cleaner that you hire have her/his own rates anyway? I don't think it would be your job to decide how much to pay them, just whether you're prepared to pay what they want.

Thanks for the advice so far. I have a contact of a friend of a friend who's interested but has never done it before so wondered what would be a fair price to offer her. Was thinking of £12 per week.

I'm in Belfast and I pay mine £6 an hour (cash in hand) - for Belfast, this is probably the higher end as most cleaners get about £5/hour but she does a good job and is willing to do the odd bit of ironing etc.

A cleaner is a godsend if you're going to be out working yourself, it saves all the mad cleaning up at the weekends and buys you more time with family!

I'm in the midlands and pay £6 an hour cash in hand - but she does 6 hours a week so she has plenty of time and isn't rushing round trying to do the impossible.

I'm in London and pay £7 per hour cash in hand. She does 3 hours and its soo worth it to know that everything gets done once a week even if the place is a tip the rest of the time.
