COSTCO - Is it worth it?

I’ve been flirting with the idea of getting a COSTCO membership for ages and they have a special offer on at the moment so it’s about £25 a year for the membership. Thing is, does it really work out cheaper than ASDA / LIDL etc? I can’t help but thinking it will be counter productive as I’ll end up buying all sorts of crap that I really don’t need! Thoughts?

I think it's only cheaper when you buy their products on offer - otherwise the supermarket offers are better. Ours is quite far and isn't really worth it as we don't have enough storage for the big packs of toilet paper, kitchen towel etc.

It is handy if you have a party though

Ooh I’ve heard they do lush cakes!

If you don't live nearby I don't think it is worth it.

A friend always uses them for catering but the cakes may look pretty but they taste vile, overly sweet.

I think you can get better deals by shopping in different local supermarkets.

The danishes are delicious- but you have to buy a tray of 12 and we can't eat them all in time

Defo worth it. Their pampers are cheaper, their loo roll is and kitchen roll. Lavatza coffee (yum) is about 25% cheaper. They also have amazing food to have that evening (the fajitas in sauce!? Enchalatas maybe...sooooo
good)

@Stupidusername1 I don’t think I’d have much of a problem polishing off 12 Danish pastries 😂. That’s one of the reasons I’m thinking this may not be such a good idea for me!

Yes to the enchiladas! We get them every time and they're my favourite dinner.
We tend to get kitchen and loo roll, 1kg Greek yogurt, Philadelphia, Cadbury's chocolate, batteries, mini frozen pizzas, Pepsi/other soft drinks (much cheaper), cases of branded wine (oyster bay/villa maria), washing up powder and softener, off the top of my head. The cottage pie, lasagne, and rotisserie chicken are all excellent, too.

I think it's defo worth it for some things. We buy the big case of bottled water (sorry not eco friendly I know) for about £2.50, coffee, washing liquid etc. But there are some things that are cheaper in supermarkets. I like it at Christmas for gifts too.

It depends how many people you will be shopping for. DH and I used to be members, we didn't save much money but did find the quality of a lot of products (especially meat etc) to be much better than our local supermarket. The problem was storing everything as a lot of packs are pretty bulky.

Audreyhelp · 30/10/2018 19:54

I am not going to renew mine . It’s not that much cheaper.

Outlookmainlyfair · 30/10/2018 19:54

Pet food and parties, for those alone it is def worth it.

Massive waste of money unless you have acres of storage and an enormous family. I used to spend a fortune on pointless stuff.
