Childrens dance classes...do your DCs do them? How much do you pay? What discipline(s)?

Looking at an 'exatra-curricula' activity for 6yo DTDs. Considering dance classes, the ones we have looked at are 45 mins - consisting of 15mins each of ballet, tap, modern jazz.

Sounds like it will be a whistlestop tour of the 3 and that they won't actually pick up anything from any of them.

Also is there a difference between IDTA and BDTA accreditation for the school?

My little dd, 8 now, has done ballet for fun since she was almost three. She does 45 mins a week working towards a show at the end of the year.
It costs 50 pounds a term.
She loves it.

DD who is 7 has been doing ballet since she was 3 but we have changed 'schools' a couple of times due to time clashes etc. Currently goes to a class run by an RAD trained teacher and working towards Grade 1 exam. Each lesson is 1 hour long and a term of 10 lessons is about £34. The cost is low as the classes are run at local sports centre and we get a slight reduction as dd is a member.

Are you sure it isn't BTDA, that is British Theatre Dance Association, it is a fairly new dance organisation

The main difference seems to be in the style of exams offered.

RAD and BBO are the main boards for ballet, some schools will use one of these for ballet and IDTA for tap and jazz though IDTA also offer ballet. I would say that any oth these 3 are reputable.

My dd (aged 5) does Stagecoach which is half an hour of jazz dance, half an hour of singing and half an hour of drama, it is more expensive than normakl dance school but everything is included, there is no costume hire, no tickets to buy, the school provides it all. I am biased towards it I know as my husband runs it!

She also does ballet which is £2 a week for half an hour but I know that is very cheap, it takes place at her school and the teacher is not charged hall hire. Normal cost is around £3-£3.50. I have just been told she will need to do 4 extra sessions plus pay an exam fee for her very first pre-syllabus exam.

If she were to be in a show I would have to pay for extra show rehearsals the costumes and pay for tickets.

Yep definately is BDTA - copied and pasted it from email. I have found a dance teacher at work - she is not in my exact area but is going to do some homeowrk for me and will hopefully come up with a recommendation for me
