As in on the spot ? I think they can, but don't. Lots of reason, standard bureaucracy, but I suspect also to protect the inspectors. If people thought they could get a cert immediately, then intimidation would follow very quickly

As they are typed out I doubt it unless building inspector just happens to carry a laptop and printer with him...

Cheers, my solicitor seems to think they can issue it there and then, but I didn't think they would be able to.

Just delays the sale of my property yet again

I suspect he's right, since I'd be surprised if the law said "go back to the office, have a cup of tea, go home, come back to work deal with emails, go to a meeting or two, deal with urgent safety case, go home, and get around to it when you get a moment."
Our building control case was delayed for months because of paternity leave.

My house has a tiny extension on the kitchen basically a miniscule utility area. Apparently although all fees etc were paid no-one actually came out to do a final inspection. The extension was done in 1998 we managed to buy the property in 2001 without it being picked up that there was no final completion certificate. That's why the building control inspector is coming out tomorrow. We were supposed to be exchanging this week................

God it gets worse. Right jobsworth came out from building control. Now, due to some stupid stupid stupid regulation about a window being near a door, you have to have toughened glass in the window in case anyone falls through the window . It doesn't matter about any other window in the room only this one because it is near the door . There is more chance of my ds bouncing on his bed and flying through his bedroom window, then there is of anyone going through the kitchen window, the windsill is so high, it would prevent anyone going through the window. So now we have to get toughened glass before the cert is issued!
