Halfway through my job interview and I've walked out

To come home and have a bit of grub!

It's like the bleedin' apprentice! 10 candidates - 1 job, who's going to the final? We even had a task to do ffs!

It's quite funny really seeing everyone eyeing each other up, trying to determine how much exp the other has. I'm up against quite a crowd, the job is for Learning Support Assistant for SEN in Secondary. One was a language therapist who worked in schools and 2 already work in the school and know the staff really well.

We've had a briefing etc and my proper interview is at 2.30.

But I've already had doubts about the Head of Learning Support. Whilst showing us around the school we came to the sports ground where a group of kids were playing tennis. He says; "Now there is one lad there who has severe autism and his LSA is working with him to make him feel included. I'll just point him out to you, look at the lad with the red hair and long sleeved top" So much for confidentiality! How the kids be included if the Head of Learning Support is singling them out as examples? And as he was saying this we were stood beneath the open windows of a classroom full of children.

I really wanted to mention it but he is one of the interviewing panel. I made my thoughts known to the other candidates but I should probably keep my trap shut with him. Not overly impressed however. He then referred to this lad's name throughout the rest of the day.

OMG - what a twunt.

Why is she still in the job? Do the heads that be not see what she is like.

Rhubarb · 12/06/2007 13:19

They don't find out day to day stuff.

She is a business woman and good at making money. But she is also ruthless. If it doesn't make money she doesn't want to know, and if a volunteer doesn't bring in enough then they go too.

Yes other people know what she is like, but as they don't have to work closely with her they aren't as affected. But they soon will be. Shame, I won't be there!

I leave on the 28th.

Ah, didn't realise you had handed your notice in.

Their loss and all that.

Good luck for the next part of the interview.

Good luck Rhubarb - 10 candidates- wow!

Rhubarb · 12/06/2007 15:21

Well, I'm back!

Hoping the interview went well, they asked some tough questions such as why I want the job (better paid, school holidays off), what my interest is in SEN, what do I see as the role of a LSA within the whole school, what methods would I employ to deal with disruptive pupils, what would I do if a lesson was not appropriate for the pupil I was with and how would I ensure that SEN pupils interacted with their peers?

I hope I gave good answers. I did manage to stifle all my farts, even the silent ones. I managed to withhold the fact that my present boss is a cow and I tried not to break into giggles when I noticed him slyly wiping his nose on the back of his hand.

There were 3 of them. They sat far too close to me. I had the urge to jump up onto the table, fart very loudly and do gorilla impressions - why does that happen to me? Sometimes when they look at me strangely I wonder whether I have indeed just done that and not merely imagined it.

They are calling us all tonight to let us know.

At least if I did actually climb onto the table, fart and do gorilla impressions I would have left my mark on them.

Ta. I'm dreading the phone going. I think I did ok but I was up against people who already work there, people who have been speech therapists and already work with kids with SEN etc.

I ain't telling if I haven't got it!

well done rhub. please make a list of what you wore, how many cheeky diana looking thru the fringe looks you did, etc, as pointer for any future candidates.

Lots of eye contact. Nod whilst listening. Pause after each question as though you are considering it carefully. No fidgeting. Legs uncrossed, hands clasped on your lap unless you are being expressive with them. Lots of examples to illustrate points. Dress smart, skirt and proper shoes, make-up.

And no knickers or bra if the interviewer is a bloke
